to Your Rights at Work - North Sydney / North Shore Group

Dear Supporter,

This week several of us in the group met with other local Your Rights
at Work Groups (Manly/Northern Beaches Group, Inner West, Parramatta,
Sutherland & Bennelong) and discussed our plans for the next few
months leading up to the Federal Election, and activities on the
actual day.

We need your input too! Our next meeting is this Tuesday, 12th June,
at the Neutral Bay Community Centre, 6pm.

In particular we'd like to focus on:

- Publicising local Issues
Often at the North Sydney Markets we are approached by locals who
tell us about local problems - for example - kids working at the local
supermarkets no longer being paid penalty rates for weekend work. We
want to highlight these local stories and show Joe Hockey that
'WorkChoices' IS a local issue. We will also try to gain stronger
links at major worksites in North Sydney and build support that way.

- Arranging activities over the coming months
We aim to have Mike Bailey (likely Labor Candidate for North Sydney)
at our July Meeting & will report on progress in securing his
presence. At subsequent meetings we'd like to have the Greens
candidate along to speak and other candidates when known.

- Networking with other community groups who support Rights at Work
I.e peace groups, environment groups, etc.

- Letter writing / strategic leafleting
Local and national media; leafleting; encouraging voting enrollment

- 'Branding' our group
T shirts / Posters / Badges etc

If you can attend bring along your ideas - or email or call us.

We would like to make it known that we will continue to push for
fairer employment laws before AND after the federal election - no
matter which government is elected.

Kind regards,

Julia Armitt & John Bailey
