Neighbors,
The Dane County Land & Water Resources
Department was awarded a planning grant from the Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources to create long-term plan for a
portion of the Cherokee-Yahara River Estuary (the portion of the
river from just upstream of Lake Mendota to where the river
narrows about 3 miles upstream, including Cherokee Lake).
The objectives of the plan are to enhance (i) recreation, (ii)
fishery and wildlife, (iii) water quality and vegetation, and
(iv) erosion and sediment trapping in the estuary.
Public Input
Two public meetings were held in November 2019 with
representatives from Dane County, City of Madison, Town of
Westport, DNR, and UW-Madison. Background information about the
project was presented and public input was collected.
Residents who didn't get a chance to attend one of the meetings
can fill out a survey to voice their priorities when it comes to
rehabilitation of the Cherokee-River Estuary. If you filled out
a survey at one of the public meetings, your responses have
already been counted and you do not need to complete this online
survey.
