Aloha everyone,
Apologies for the delay in sending you out news - I collected these
emails on 1019 and 10/29 and have most of you in those groups. Some
names or emails I could not read, so I hope you wrote clearly!!
I hope you have at least heard about our group of dedicated members
who have been meeting weekly or more since we heard the news of the
club closing to try and find an alternative site - both short and long
term and an entity to run such a club. We have considered many
options and met with a great many people, some of whom have come close
to getting something off the ground. It is not easy - the club has
been operating at a loss for many years and we have been the
beneficiary's of low dues during that time. It takes a huge amount of
money and effort to operate a club, and both groups who we had hope
for have fallen by the wayside for one reason or another.
We understand how much the club meant to all of us and are as
concerned as you about the reality of not having another place to go
to. With only two months notice, it has not been enough to put
something in place, but we have made progress and are a lot more
educated about what it takes to open and operate a club. What we
really need right now are hearing from:
1. People interested in starting and running a club facility - short
term & long term
2. Knowing how many of the current members would support an interim
facility upstairs at the Princeville Shopping Center (the only space
we have found currently available)
a) that offers a weight room and class room but perhaps not a pool
b) that offers the above and a pool at a different location
We have set up a google group site on the internet as a place to
communicate with each other and this will be the main way of
communicating from this point on - so please bookmark the site and use
it to post notices (you need to join to do this) or just read what
other people are posting (no need to join). It is simple and
informative, but we need you to become a part of this and not just sit
on the sidelines expecting others to do all the work!
Below is the all the information that has been sent out previously and
posted on the google group site - the URL is mentioned in many
places. I hope you take the time to read it all so you can at least
understand what has been considered to date.
An update to this information: -
* Cornerstone (owners of the Makai Golf Club) have now received the CO
for the pool and are open to the Westin Guests as part of their
agreement.
* The Hanalei Courthouse building is no longer an option.
* Other instructors have posted where they will be holding classes in
the interim (on google group).
* We are in the process of forming an LLC so we can accept financial
support to reach our goals
Many thanks for taking the time to sign up, and please spread the word
of the google groups around to other interested people.
Mahalo and aloha
