Good Morning Neighbors!

Thank you all for the feedback you have provided for the future park at THE 501 (Leif Johnson Ford Site).  Please see the attached document we have provided to United Properties capturing the feedback that we have received thus far.

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the two neighbors who volunteered to be our representatives at the design charrette for the park - Katharina Stoll and Megan Gray!
  • Katharina is a new mom (to our newest NA member!) and an Architect with Gensler here in Austin.  She will be bringing her design experience to a process she is very familiar with as well has her knowledge of urban design.
  • Megan is a mom of 3 wonderful kids and a Pediatrician here in Austin.  She will be bringing her extensive experience as a user and observer of parks as well as a focus on creating healthy play environments for all users.

In the next coming weeks there will be a design charrette with our NLNPCT Reps, United Properties and their Landscape Architecture team, and Robynne Heymanns of APR.  During this charrette the team will work to refine the current design and incorporate the elements the neighborhood would like to see become a part of this new park space.  Please understand that the document we have put forth is very aspirational and includes some ideas that may be difficult to realize or require tradeoffs for other elements that we may want to include.  Our Reps will be tasked with speaking on our behalf to ensure the new parkland meets the needs of the neighborhood and becomes a treasured new public space in our community.

Following this charrette, our representatives will present the park design to the NLNPCT and NLNA at an upcoming meeting.  Date to be set once the initial design work and documentation is complete.

Please reach out to me or Steve if you have any questions.
Look forward to seeing how this project develops!

This looks amazing! I wonder if we could get some renderings of the Red Line Parkway, where it goes from one end to the other. We’ve been talking about it for a number of years, but I’m realizing I don’t know that much about how it would look next to the railway, under the trees, etc.

Also, I know there will be a park on the other side of the tracks for the Hangar. I wonder if we could put something together that would represent the whole area with parks as an overview, flyover, etc. so that we could see “North Loop parks” as more of a cohesive thing, even if they are separated by the rail line.

Jason, you can find the best information about the Red Line Parkway at their website redlineparkway.org.  They don’t have renderings of future segments of the trail, but you will get a feel for their goals for the trail.  There are already some notable segments built and I would encourage you to ride them and see what you think!

We are working on getting a more comprehensive park plan but as we do not have a formal plan for THE 501 side yet, this will need to wait.  Once we have the design complete on that side we will try to get some plans and imagery on the CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS page of the NLNA Website.
