Good afternoon neighbors.
I just wanted to reach out with a quick note. Many of you may have received a notice in the mail that the properties at 5786 ½, 5800, 5826, 5900, 5900 ½, 5908 Airport Boulevard (which we are referring to as the ButterKrust Site due to the old ButterKrust Bakery that used to operate there) are up for rezoning – which they are. These are the properties east of the Red Line, west of Airport, North of Koenig, and south of the Highland Station less the Panda Express and 7/11. The notice indicated that this case is scheduled to be heard at Planning Commission this coming Tuesday. This case has been postponed for the time being by the applicant.
These properties are similar in many ways to THE 501 development and present some of the same opportunities to Skyview that THE 501 did to North Loop – such as parkland/greenspace, and extension of the Redline Parkway, affordable housing, retail / commercial space, transit connectivity, etc. While this site is not in our NA boundaries or our Neighborhood Plan Area, it is adjacent and we are doing everything we can to support our neighbors to the north - Skyview NA and the Brentwood / Highland NPCT. There are many discussions yet to be had about this site and we will do our best to keep everyone in the loop as to how this case develops over the coming months. I will provide a brief update tomorrow night during our discussion on Developments in the Neighborhood during the North Loop NA meeting tomorrow night, 7pm at the Commune. Hope to see you all there!
