Bruning Avenue is currently closed between Middle Fiskville Road and Airport Boulevard. The closure began earlier this week and is expected to remain in place until Friday, September 19 (subject to change).

Crews are completing several improvements in this area, including:

  • Installation of a center concrete median just east of Middle Fiskville
  • Construction of new curb, gutter, and a shared-use path (SUP) connection to the railroad tracks
  • Mill and overlay paving work along Bruning Avenue
  • Additional landscaping and concrete work along the south side of Bruning

We appreciate your patience as this work is completed. Access to surrounding businesses and properties will be maintained, but please plan ahead for possible travel delays in this area.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to improve mobility in Austin.

I don't know about everyone else, but my patience is starting to wear thin for this project. The intersection has been in various states of closure for a month now and they don't seem to be in a hurry to finish.

In contrast, the contractors that did the sidewalks wrapped up much longer stretches of road in much less time, with what seems like a similar scope of work. My memory may be hazy, but I think the entirety of Bruning got sidewalks in 2 weeks.

Perhaps the lowest bid wasn't the best one here. Who can we pass along this feedback to?

I think it is the same contractor for the sidewalks and the street (it’s all part of the same contract?). They changed the intersection quite a bit and it involved needing to take up the pavement and repave the new lanes and they had to keep some lanes open. Probably would have been quicker if they just shut it all down from the beginning.

The sidewalks were much simpler than the intersection work. Although the sidewalks under 290 took them several months to finish.

I did not see the original estimated time before the project began, though.
