All are based on an average size house 130 sq mtrs running for 6 hours
a day.
Central Heating
The cost of installing the system will be between £2500 and £4000
depending on size and amount of radiators 7 is recommended for the
above size house. Using LGP you will be looking at paying 300-350YTL a
month compared to 400 YTL for oil fired systems.
Paraffin Heaters
the cost of heaters range from 199 and 1,249 Euros with the most
popular model selling for 300Euros(485YTL). One litre of paraffin costs
1.15YTL which is enough to run a cheap heater for 3 to 4 hours and a
more expensive model for as long as 10 hours. You will need 3 top of
the range heaters to get the same amount of heat as the central heating
system. Running costs would be 62.10YTL a month however Paraffin
heaters are normally only used to heat living rooms. As they are very
powerful it is not recommended to use them in bedrooms or small rooms
as they dry the air and reduces the level of oxygen.
Air Conditioning
3 x 28.000 btu would cost $1,510 each with a monthly running cost of
124.20YTL. The advantage of using Air conditioners as heating is that
they double up as coolers for the summer, there is no mess or smell
however as we all know electric in the TRNC is a sore subject so you
would need a back up means of heating.
Gas Fires
You would need to buy 3 gas fires at a cost of between 270 and 305YTL
each. Gas bottles cost 18YTL filled or 14YTL refilled. Monthly running
costs would be 69.12 YTL. The advantages are they are portable and can
be moved easily the disadvantages are that they produce a damp effect
and also dry the air in a room as they burn oxygen.
Wood Fires
An open fire will usually only heat the living room but if you have an
open plan home you will feel the heat all over the house. Wood costs
150YTL a ton from private suppliers and 100YTL ton from the forestry
department.
Monthly costs would be 108.30YTL of using the forestry Department.
The above figures are all estimated, actual fuel consumption would
depend on size of home and how well insulated it is.
