Invitation for the 23rd ICU Tournament 2014
Dear Debating Community,
It is our pleasure to invite your institution to the 23rd ICU Tournament held in Tokyo, Japan from 13th to 15th of March 2014.
ICU Tournament is the one and only international tournament held annually in Japan, which has continuously gathered debaters from various regions . We expect to see over 100 participants from varying nations competing in high quality debates throughout the tournament. Not only will debaters be able to enjoy debate itself, but will also get a chance to do sightseeing in Tokyo, one of the most attractive cities in the world.
We are very proud to announce that this year, our Adjudication Core will be composed of Asia's top debaters and adjudicators. With Kohki Sasaki from ICU(International Christian University) heading, we have Sharmila Parmanand from Philippines, and Kevin Liu from Thailand, Yuki Tominaga from University of Tokyo, and Takahiko Kondo from ICU. All adjudicators have extensive experiences in creating excellent tournaments of very high quality, and we promise you that this one would be too.

Details are as follows:
Venue: International Christian University
Date: from 13th to 15th of March 2014
The check-in date for the hotel is March 12th and check-out date is March 16th.
Tournament Cap: 80 teams (including domestic and foreign)
Institutional Cap: None
Debating Format: Asian Style (Gov.3 / Opp. 3)
Qualification: All debaters who wish to attend. (Including high school, university, graduate school student, and graduates)
Adjudication Rule: N=N Rule
-You will need to send 1 judge per 1 team. For example, if you send 3 teams, you will need to send 3 judges.
-This rule applies to both institutional teams and composite teams.
Registration Fee: JPY25,000 per debater or adjudicator
This includes:
-4 nights accommodation
The check-in date is March 12th and check-out date is March 16th.
-Breakfast of March 13th to 16th
-Lunch of March 13th and 14th
Break team members will be offered 15th’s lunch in addition.
-Transportation fee between the venue and hotel in Japan
-Break night participation fee
There has been a raise in the registration fee. This is because we have added 1 more night of accommodation in the package for your convenience. We appreciate your understanding.
How to Register
Phase 1: Registration
Registration Period: Nov 1 2013-Nov 24 2013
The link for registration will be uploaded on our official website and facebook page on 0:00 Japan time (GMT+9) of November 1st.
During the registration period, all institutions and teams are allowed to register, and we will allocate slots on a first-come-first-served basis.
Institutions that have successfully registered will be notified by the organizing committee by email.
Phase 2: Payment
Once receiving the notice of slot confirmation from us, all participants must pay the full fee (JPY25,000) for the tournament by Dec 13 2013.
Failure to do so will result in the teams/adjudicators losing their slots.

Important Notes:
1. Make sure you note “your institution name/ your full name (for independent adjudicators)” in the REMARKS section of your transfer slip.
2. Transfer the fees based on institutions rather than individuals (except for independent adjudicators).
3. After you finish the payment, please send us a scanned copy of your transfer slip to icut...@gmail.com. The subject of the email should read "(NAME OF INSTITUTION) PAYMENT SLIP." Specify your date of transfer and total amount. We will not be able to confirm your payment without the copy of your transfer slip, as it will serve as payment evidence.
4. Only Bank Transfers will be accepted.
5. Any withdrawal after the payment period will not be accepted. This means that once you pay the registration fee, we cannot pay you the fee back even if you would like to cancel the participation for ICU Tournament.
6.All transaction/conversion charges must be accepted by the payee.
Upon receiving your Registration Fees and the above document we will send you an e-mail confirmation.
Phase 3: Participants Details
Please enter Participants Details by Dec 25 2013.
We will ask for information of each participant. Please note that you must decide who is participating by this deadline.
