City Council has submitted an application to amend the Comprehensive Plan to change the corridor designation on Menaul Blvd. stretching from Louisiana to Rio Grande Blvd. and then south to I-40. It is currently designated multi-modal and the request is to change it to major transit.
The
Environmental Planning Commission Hearing for the Amendment will be on Thursday, June 26th, 2025. Comments are due 10 days in advance to be part of the packet submitted to the EPC Commissioners. Comments received 48 hours before the hearing are usually accepted.
We requested a post-submittal meeting to be presented by Council Services to discuss the change. It will be held at Garfield Middle School, 3501 6th Street NW and also accessible through the zoom link listed below. The time is 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 3. Attached is the application and a powerpoint about the change. As you well know, the corridor, surrounding properties, and road design vary greatly along the entire stretch.
P.
6-38 and 6-39 in the above link define the differences between
multi-modal and major transit. It would appear that a major difference
is the increased emphasis for transit and decreased emphasis for
bicycles. The two definitions reference other sections in the
Comprehensive Plan (
