There is an important City-facilitated meeting next Tuesday evening about the proposed QuikTrip truck stop at 1701 12th Street NW. This location is about 6 acres of vacant property on the west side of 12th Street just south of I-40 and north of the railroad spur. The facilitated meeting will be in-person and virtual, and is open to any interested person. We encourage you to attend.

The co-facilitators for the meeting are Philip Crump, a contract facilitator from Santa Fe,

In an email, Mr. Crump explained the purpose of the meeting as follows: “The purpose of the facilitated meeting is to provide neighbors with an opportunity to discuss this application with the owner and agent (if any), to pose questions and raise issues in an informal setting prior to any formal hearing.” You can find more information about the City’s land use facilitation program here:

From Aug 14, 2023 QuikTrip letter
QuikTrip is proposing a truck stop with three “conditional uses”—heavy vehicle fueling station, liquor retail sales, and nicotine retail sales—all three of which must be approved by the City’s Zoning Hearing Examiner (ZHE). The ZHE will hold a public hearing process and will decide whether to approve the proposed conditional uses.
QuikTrip also must apply to the City’s Environmental Planning Commission (EPC) for approval of its proposed site plan. The EPC will hold a public hearing and will decide whether to approve the site plan.
ZHE and EPC decisions are appealable.
