Below is a press release sent to me by the Maria Diers Neighborhood Association which is appealing the approval of this project.  This clarifies the land use issues that is what this appeal is about.  A shortened press release begins on page 6.  Due to the controversy of the case, the County will be hosting a hybrid meeting.  All public comments should be related to the land use issues.  The agenda will be sent separately.

Dear Assignment Desk / Editor,

Please see the attached press release regarding the Maria/Diers Neighborhood Associations appeal of the Bernalillo County’s approval for 9600 2nd Street N.W.

This appeal is not about religion.  It is about whether the County approved a 50,000-square foot multi-use institutional project on about 3.87 acres without a complete public record on traffic, safety, and compatibility.

The applicants own materials describe a school, daycare, large assembly use, 235 parking spaces, and significant expected traffic on this Rural North 2nd corridor.  The appeal argues that key traffic and mitigation questions were deferred until after approval, raising serious public-process concerns.

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,

Pat Hauser
