Brenda Philips, Paros Research Professor, is a hazards researcher at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her work focuses on bridging the physical, technical, and social components of weather warning systems. In collaboration with the NCTCOG, local emergency managers and other stakeholders, she established the CASA DFW Radar Network, a next-generation radars-to-people warning system that has operated in the region for almost 10 years. The network is centered around a network of x-band CASA radars that provides high-resolution data in the lowest levels of the atmosphere for detection of flash floods, tornados, high winds and hail. In her talk, "CASA DFW Network: Advancing Severe Weather Operations and Research" she will address the symbiotic relationship between operations and research through several case studies.
