Greetings,
The North Texas Chapter of the AMS and NWA was founded in 1937. Only a handful of active chapters were founded earlier. Before COVID, we were very active and had a membership that included meteorologists from different sections of the weather enterprise, weather enthusiasts, and most importantly, students. Our presentations, while not always in-person, included well-known speakers, NWS personnel, researchers and others involved in all aspects of the weather phoneme. Unfortunately, COVID shut the Chapter down and we have never really recovered. Last spring, we were approached by the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at UT-Arlington who are motivated to keep the Chapter active. It is our intentions to work with UTA in this regard.
On September 15th at 7:00 PM, the Chapter will hold our regularly scheduled meeting at UTA. An agenda will be posted on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/123772091964) and in an email in the next few weeks. UTA will provide free parking, but attendees will need to provide your name and email address of the driver (if carpooling, only the name and email of the driver is needed). The University will then send an email to register for free parking. This must be done no later than September 5th. Please send your name and email address to Yunyao Li (our UTA host) yuny...@uta.edu.
For those that do not provide your information by the deadline will be required to pay your own parking fees; please get your information in quickly.
We look forward to getting the Chapter back to our pre-COVID days which can only be done with everyone’s participation.
Feel free to email me directly if there are any questions.
Thank you!
Greg Higgins
Chapter Vice-president (acting President)
