to North Fork Birds
Well, Hank and I birded Dam Pond, Townsend, The End of NF Universe and Cedar Beach. I write in a notebook, places and species and wow..... 72 species! We hit various habitats. We know the SOLITARY SANDPIPER usually can be seen this time of year at muddy pool at the end of the creek. Surprised! We saw three! Maybe a mating dance/fight behavior because one bird mounted the other bird and Hank spots another cross the muddy shore. Hank spotted COMMON NIGHTHAWK. It took me a minuet to get on them. At the "overlook" we saw SPOTTED SANDPIPERS and many terrapin noses. I heard a sound that I hadn't heard in years.....(zip) Three Beers.....(zip) Three Beers. We walked into the trail and I saw a bird on the other side of a tree, taking off and about the right size for the OLIVER-SIDED FLYCATCHER! On the main trail we had a nice flurry of CHICKADEES, TITMOUSE, PINE, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, "YELLOW" START, and YELLOW WARBLER and RED-EYED VIREO and both ORCHARD and BALTIMORE ORIOLES! At the Point, we had GREAT CORMORANTS, FORSTER and COMMON TERNS. At Townsend we had a GLOSSY IBIS. Today at Cedar Beach, we had three WHIMBRELS, WILLETS, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, BLACK BELLIED PLOVER, RUDDY and LEAST TERNS. And was saw Shai and Pat! I haven't seen them in ages! Hank gave them directions for the WhimbreI. A little family time with the Hansens and the Harrisons..... It was a gorgeous weekend!
