I'm taking off for Florida on Monday.
Hank and I went to Montauk to see the CASSIN' S SPARROW which we did! The bird was feeding near the GRASSHOPPER SPARROW. We had great views of the bird, feeding in the grasses near the upper parking lot. Cameras were clicking, bins and chattering with others. The bird was ten feet from me and big in my bins. Very Soul Satisfying. We had two RAZORBILL, HARLEQUIN females, COMMON EIDER and all the normal ducks you would expect at Montauk.
On the way back we had 4 RAVENS right at the dock of the South Ferry.
Back on the North Fork, we had lunch at Nookies and cruised the sod fields for Geese on Oregon Road and elsewhere. We had a boat load off Depot Lane. There is a really good decoy maker and Hank noticed them first them. They weren't moving! The best decoys I've ever seen. Must have been 20 of them. We had a HARRIER and the most surprisedly there were about 30 HORNED LARKS!
Another story of the day was all the EAGLES we saw! At the South Ferry I noticed white heads in a large pine, three adult Eagles, another adult on the drive to the Point and one adult over Oregon Rd and a third year Eagle in Doctor's Path. It's the most Eagle sightings on the East End!
