Hi

I'm starting this list to discuss and push forward some of the things discussed at feb's supermondays.

There seems to be a strong interest in mentoring, and fair interest in expanding the range of courses we have available in the region. I'd like to see how far we can take this. I also think we've got excellent resources and skills in the region, and can build on this.

If you're interested in joining in, in whatever capacity,  please join the mailing group.  It'd be useful if you could post a brief message about your interests,  relevant experience, and what you would like to get our of this - particularly whether you'd like to be involved on the 'delivery' side or not.

I have this timetable in mind:

* a small session (free) near the end of March to cover mentoring, mainly to give tips on techniques and expectations to those who are interested in mentoring. We hope to have a few experienced teachers on hand to answer questions. The aim is to get more people into a position where they feel able to mentor on technical topics. Many people I know are more than capable of mentoring,  but may need encouragement and confidence.

* start to link up mentors and mentees soon after,  and see how it goes

* a small session (free) towards end of April to cover small group teaching,  again aimed at giving people confidence and techniques to pass on their skills and knowledge to others.  I plan to get a mix of teachers and topics,  to cover a range of styles and approaches.

* try to get some workshops in motion with a mix of teachers during May, probably most as free taster sessions,

* aim for some workshops over the summer,  possibly including some CPD for teachers, extra topics for post-school learners eg to supplement college or university,  and topics useful to the technologies community - organised through flockedu.

So to sum up, I'd like to start giving people the confidence to pass their skills on, and hope we can build this into a useful scheme. It may start small but with a bit of pushing we could get to critical mass.

How does this sound?

Paul

to North East workshops
HI Paul,

Firstly, thanks for setting the group up and proposing the timetable.

I'm very happy to put myself forward to do some workshops and also
help others with my teaching experience where needed :)
