Hi Makerspace! My partner is getting really stumped on a project and I was wondering if you would be able to help.

She's looking to make a transportable staff for a prop, so she's looking at purchasing a dowel rod, cutting it in two and somehow joining the parts back up to assemble it.

The problem is we have no idea how to do it! She has been looking at various bolts but found nothing for the other end which lets her tightly fix the two parts back together. The last time we tried buying and gluing a stack of nuts together but it didn't quite work out :p we don't really know the name of what we're looking for

Would anyone be able to point us in the right direction? Apologies if this isn't a good place to ask!

What sort of diameter is the dowel? Broom handle size or cadbury's chocolate finger size?

Alternatively, you could fit a nut into each end, glue it in place, and use a piece of threaded rod.

Whoa, thanks for the responses! Both links look like they would do the trick, the rod will be about as thick as a typical broomstick handle. Think I'll pick up a trouble headed screw and give it a try. Thank you so much!

It it is for repeated break down and reassembly you really should go for the two part brass fittings I posted or eventually it will wear out and /or split the wood

Each part of the staff can be drilled and the fittings epoxied in place.

Drilling should pref be done in a drill press to keep the hole straight and stop the drill bit wandering in the direction of the grain.
