Unleashing LNG on Pennsylvania’s Habitat
Excerpts:
HABITAT DESTRUCTION
In the hilly terrain of western Pennsylvania, the creation of well sites involves the destruction of large tracts of natural habitat, including the wide cuts that are excavated for gathering pipelines, which run to every well pad. Pipeline cuts won’t grow trees again, since pipelines must be kept clear of trees.
Drilling locations have also accelerated invasive weed growth and altered wildlife movements. Thousands of violations, including spills and fish kills, speak for themselves, and the aerial views in the video linked below, will tell the rest of the story.
NO SEVERANCE TAX
Pennsylvania doesn’t have a severance tax like the one that earns Texas about 20-times more than Pennsylvania’s alternative, an impact fee. Texas’ revenue is in the billions, and is used for schools, roads and economic stability.
‘Chump Change’ instead of Billions
Meantime, Pennsylvania’s impact fee is forecast to drop nearly 40-percent
this year to $174 million, so the fracking financials are
dismal without any need to be, while state legislators continue to struggle
with major budget gaps.
EXPORTS
“The United States can’t
preach temperance from a bar stool, and right now, America is
drunk on oil and gas production and exports.”
