Dear District 9 Community,
Over the past week, our community has experienced heartbreaking violence, and three neighbors have lost their lives in the recent shootings in Five Points and the Cole neighborhoods.
My heart is with the families mourning loved ones, the neighbors who are grieving, and every resident who is carrying fear right now. Every person deserves to feel safe in their home, on their block, and in every part of our community.
I want you to know that my office is working closely with the Department of Safety, the Denver Police Department, and trusted community leaders as patrols increase and investigations continue.
My immediate focus is protecting residents, supporting impacted families, and ensuring strong long-term violence prevention strategies are in place so our neighborhoods can heal and this violence does not happen again.
I also want to encourage neighbors to come together, ask questions, and stay informed at the upcoming Cole Neighborhood Association meeting on:
Community voice and partnership are essential in moments like this, and resident engagement will help shape both the immediate response and the long-term path forward.
As your District 9 Council Member, I remain committed to visible public safety action, stronger neighborhood partnerships, and targeted investments that restore peace and protect Five Points, Cole, and every District 9 neighborhood.
In Solidarity,
Darrell B. Watson
Denver City Council Member, District 9
