PUBLIC BANKING THEN AND NOW”: a community empowerment evening

THE SONOMA NEW ECONOMY PROJECT, as a participant in Invest Local Month is sponsoring an evening of learning, and community building around the subject of democratizing local financing for a sustainable local economy.

Date: September 16, 2013

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Location: Share Exchange, 533 5th Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95401

The newly launched Sonoma New Economy Project in collaboration with the Public Banking Institute and the Share Exchange is thrilled to host Marc Armstrong, Executive Director of PBI who will bring the following program to our community.

Event highlights:

  • A short documentary on the history of the Bank of North Dakota; some little known history of how colonial public banking helped achieve economic independence and stability during the formative years of our emerging democracy.
  • Guided discussion about the triumphs and inspirations as well as the stumbling-blocks and lessons from these examples of public banking that can inform our current local efforts to democratize finance within our local economy.

About the Sonoma New Economy Project:

The Sonoma New Economy Project is an ad hoc group of citizens in and around Sonoma County who are committed to implementing Public Banking as a tool to create a more democratic and sustainable local economy. Project organizers and coordinators are working with the Public Banking Institute to educate the community and promote the cause of Public Banking in Sonoma County.
