Film Palais Royal

Wehad the pleasure of going to Paris last September and decided to do an engagement shoot giveaway through Instagram prior to us arriving. We got to shoot Poppy and Clement, and were enamored by their kindness and down to earth personalities. We shot this completely in black and white film using the Contax 645 and Canon 1V, and cannot get over the elegance and timeless feel of black and white film.

Poppy, from the UK, and Clement a french native did such a lovely job dancing through the jardin du palais royale. We also enjoyed getting some shots by the pont des invalides, and finished off with a paper and a nice cup of coffee from Cafe Palais Royal.

The Alczar of Seville (royal palace in Seville, Spain) is a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site and is recognized as the oldest royal palace in Europe that is still in use. The upper chambers of the Alcazar are still used by the Spanish royal family as their official residence in Seville.

The Alcazar of Seville is one of the best examples of architecture in the style of Mudejar (the Moorish style). In this place in Seville, the original palace, called Al-Muwarak, was built by the Almohades in the 12th century. Construction of the current building on the site of the first Arabic fortress began in 1364 by order of King Pedro I. Since the construction, it has been constantly reworked and expanded, acquiring new stylistic features.

The palace itself was truly breathtaking, exotic Arabian architecture with ornate floors, ceilings and walls, intricate details of the azulejos (ceramic tiles), beautiful green gardens immersed in the scent of roses and orange trees and fountains with a look ideal for recreating the Water Gardens of Dorne, seat of House Martell in the Game of Thrones series.

Mercury's Pond (Estanque de Mercurio) is large pool decorated by frescoes and stonework. At the center of the pond is a small fountain with a statue of Mercury. The bronze statue of Mercury with his winged helmet was designed by Diego de Pesquera and cast by Bartolom Morel in 1576. Behind the pool is the Italian grotto gallery, which was constructed to transform the old Almohad wall into a loggia. Is made from volcanic stones of different types that are reminiscent sea rocks. The view from the gallery into both sides of the gardens is spectacular.

The city of Seville has been featured in other famous movies. For example, its beautiful Plaza de Espana appeared in "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones". The Alcazar has also been used to film historic movies including "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Kingdom of Heaven".

Si la comdie franaise n'allait pas aussi mal, Palais royal! n'aurait pas de quoi fouetter un chat. Son gratignement des ttes couronnes, de Lady Di Monaco en un jeu des familles qui brouille les pistes, vaut en effet surtout pour ses rfrences (rtifs Point de vue, Paris Match et Stphane Bern, passez votre chemin) et un certain sens du timing. Pas de mchancet dans l'approche d'une Valrie Lemercier la fois actrice, ralisatrice et scnariste: la comdienne montre mme une tendresse rvrentieuse l'gard du monde qu'elle dcrit.

Sauf que la comdie franaise va de mal en pis, avec Depardieu en auto tamponneuse omniprsente (bientt avec Gad Elmaleh dans le lamentable Ol), la vulgarit racoleuse de l'curie Luc Besson type Taxi, l'cervellement des comiques TV (Kad et Olivier, Eric et Ramzi, etc.) et une troupe du Splendid qui craque l'aube de la soixantaine pour les fonds de tiroir (Les Bronzs 3, au dbut de l'an prochain). Du coup, Palais royal! surprend: aprs deux prcdentes ralisations de bon aloi (Quadrille d'aprs Guitry et Le Derrire), Valrie Lemercier russit une comdie franaise qui fait rire. Joie et enchantement! Bonheur et flicit!

Valrie Lemercier n'y va pas avec le dos de la cuillre: elle ouvre son film sur l'enterrement du personnage qu'elle incarne, la princesse Armelle. On pense Lady Di? C'est normal: tout est fait pour, des photographies o elle reprend les poses de Diana son implication dans les grandes causes. Palais royal! raconte d'ailleurs comment la princesse introduit le ver dans le fruit opulent men par la reine Eugenia (Catherine Deneuve) et son amant, le chef du protocole Ren-Guy (Michel Aumont).

Rveille de sa lthargie de chteau parce qu'elle est entarte par Nol Godin (qui joue son propre rle tout comme Stphane Bern), la princesse Armelle offre Valrie Lemercier l'unique rle humain du film. Face elle, chacun en fait des tonnes, commencer par un Lambert Wilson en plein dlire dans son incarnation du prince Arnaud, le mari d'Armelle. Et pourtant, l'quilibre entre les traits les plus tendres et les lignes les plus appuyes s'avre parfait. Grce, d'abord, une mise en scne d'une grande sobrit, jamais emporte ni par son plaisir manifeste de filmer ni par la tentation de prendre le public pour un paquet d'imbciles incultes.

C'est d'abord ce respect qui rend sympathique Palais royal! On est loin des pantalonnades la Jean Yanne (priode Deux Heures moins le quart avant Jsus-Christ ou Libert, Egalit, Choucroute). Valrie Lemercier refuse le cynisme. C'est d'autant plus prcieux qu'elle est quasi la seule en France aujourd'hui.
