Pigeons get a bad rap, but they are one of my favorite species of bird. The only thing that irks me is the way they go around picking up bits of peoples' leftover lunches. I'm not condemning their dietary choices (who am I to judge?), it's just that I always felt like they'd get a lot more respect if they stopped that ridiculous head bobbing while scavenging for food.

They can motivate and stretch you to achieve more of your potential. Radiators have a positive can do attitude and believe that they are personally responsible for how they think and how they behave.
5. If you don't have the choice to stay away from a particular drain, try this coping strategy; awareness is everything, you can simply refuse to be drained. Turn your encounters into a humorous game. Wait for the attempts at drainage to begin, and be amused by the process. Make the conscious decision not to allow them to take your positivity from you.
No bus transportation across the bridge will be provided as part of the event. Walkers who decide to walk across the entire bridge will need to arrange their own transportation back to the end of the bridge where they started after the bridge reopens to public traffic at noon. There is limited parking space available west of the Mackinac Bridge Authority plaza area.
For those seeking alternative transportation during the event, the local Mackinac Island ferry companies offer transportation between St. Ignace, Mackinaw City, and Mackinac Island, as well as between St. Ignace and Mackinaw City. Local transportation companies also offer shuttle service between various locations.
The walk begins in St. Ignace at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge in the Upper Peninsula, and in Mackinaw City at the south end of the bridge in the Lower Peninsula. To participate in the walk you may:
Walkers will use the left-hand outside paved lane as they walk onto the bridge, regardless of which end of the bridge they start from. Walkers who turn back at the midpoint will turn right, then return using the opposite side outside paved lane. Walkers who choose to cross the entire bridge will stay in the left-hand outside paved lane all the way across.
Baby strollers and wheelchairs are allowed on the bridge during the walk. Prohibited items include signs, banners, umbrellas, bicycles, roller skates, skateboards, wagons and similar types of devices. With the sole exception of working service dogs, no animals are allowed. Walkers must stay away from bridge railings. The inside lane in both directions will remain open for emergency vehicles.
You will receive a numbered bridge walk certificate at the completion of your walk. Certificates will be distributed at both ends of the bridge. Individuals under the age of 18 should have the permission of a parent or guardian to participate in the walk. Any two or more people walking together should make plans for a meeting place in the event that they become separated during the walk.
Disclaimer of liability: Before beginning the walk, all participants should carefully determine that they are physically fit and medically able to participate in the annual walk since the physical strain of the walk could lead to serious health problems. Participants should also understand that walking involves risks of injury from falls due to the surface condition of the bridge, contact with other participants, and the effects of weather including high heat and/or humidity.
Very young chicks also do it, though not as strikingly as the adults. Woodcocks eat earthworms and invertebrates (ants, millipedes, etc.) that they grub from the soil, and you can see this one probing a bit.
Połczyn-Zdrj was part of Germany in 1940 when Heinrich was born. It became part of Poland in 1945 after the Second World War when the Soviets took eastern Poland and gave a part of eastern Germany in return. The last time prior to that when Polzin was part of the Polish state was in the 14th century when Poland consisted of a number of fiefdoms with a king the dukes ignored.
While snipe and woodcock are similar, they are different species. The bord in your clip is a snipe. All the snipe species hae stripes on their heads running from the beak to the back of the head. Both wrocan and Eurasian wppdcock have stripes on theor heds running from ear to ear.
His hometown was in Germany when Heinrich was worn. It went to Poland only in 1945. I am not sure what would be the correct country designation in this case, but Heinrich definitely born as a German citizen.
The region Pomerania was Prussia for centuries, then Prussia merged into the German Empire. Over older history, it changed hands many times and belonged to the (crusader) State of the Teutonic Knights, the Holy Roman Empire, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, and many even more specific terms. The NSDAP had their second best result in Pommern (Pomerania) in the last free democratic election.
These water striders have been here since the beginning of April, when I was rather surprised to see them out so early. Because they overwinter as adults, those had probably just emerged from dormancy and had spent the winter in nearby leaf litter. Many of the water striders that emerge now are wingless and so unable to fly. But those that hatch in late summer and fall have wings and can fly back to their overwintering sites.
People without Parkinson's disease (PD) do not think about their walking. Their arms naturally swing, and their feet naturally land on the heels with each step. They can walk and talk and carry bags, purses and plates of food without difficulty.
We investigate asset manager characteristics that influence ESG voting patterns using a decade of voting data with more than 20 million observations. Asset managers predominantly vote against social and environmental proposals. Especially, large and passive asset managers vote the least in favor of these proposals and despite the increased attention to sustainability integration, they hardly vote more in favor of these proposals than a decade ago. Moreover, signatories of the PRI do not vote more often in favor of environmental and social issues. Our results have important implications for investors striving for direct impact on the sustainability agenda of corporates.
We Walk PHL is a free walking group that meets several times per week at various public parks. Launched as a pilot program in 2017, We Walk PHL is a partnership between Fairmount Park Conservancy, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation.
Walking group leaders are recruited from the communities surrounding the parks, and receive training from We Walk program staff. Walks take place one-three days per week at each site, and last around an hour.
Some theories as to why they do this are to keep their balance or to provide depth perception, but most scientists agree that the real reason for why chickens bob their head when they walk is to maintain an acute sense of their surroundings.
Unlike humans, chickens' eyeballs don't move in the eye socket. They're fixed. So in order to shift their gaze, chickens have to move their whole head, and conversely, in order to focus on a fixed point, they have to keep their head completely still - even if their body is moving.
This helps them sense danger and also helps them to spot bugs they want to eat. The slight movement of a bug against a stationary background is easier for them to see if their eyes are focused on the same spot as they move.
You might have seen the Mercedes car commercial that came out a few years ago that really highlighted just how stable a chicken keeps its head, even as its body is moving. I tried that same thing recently with one of our three-week old chicks. Even at that young age, they have the head thing down pretty well!
The chicken will move its head forward, then lock its head (and therefore its eyes) in place, allowing its vision to stabilize and give the eyes enough time to survey their surroundings for predators, while allowing their body to catch up to their head. And then the movement is repeated.
The perceived "bobbing" of the chicken's head is merely the movement they make jutting their head out, then walking forward to realign their body under their head, and jutting their head out again - the whole while maintaining clear vision of the horizon and any impending danger as well as keeping an eye out for bug to eat.
But there are a lot of other people out there, like you perhaps, who do deeply transformative and ethical work that radically changes the world view of the clients who are willing to take the journey with you.
In order to start doing the work, you have to acknowledge and work on challenges they are facing today. And slowly, through time and reflection, begin to show them how they are transforming their perspective and beliefs. Once they are through The Magic Door, it is hard to even remember what life was like before they (took control of their health)/(managed their finances well)/(had a healthy marriage)/(had fulfilling work)/etc.
People are much more likely to engage with you when you acknowledge the reality of where they are, before introducing all the great things that will happen once they gain new skills or learn new behaviors.
My biggest Magic Door experience was starting my blog at Escape from Cubicle Nation and implementing a virtual business model. In 2004, if you had told me that I would write books, travel the world speaking and coach entrepreneurs around the globe from the comfort of my office through this thing called The Internet, I would never have believed you.
But now that I have been on the other side of The Magic Door, I know that radically transformed lives and careers are possible, including mine. And I am willing to go on new journeys now, since I know that so many things are possible beyond the limited scope of my experience.
