I have come across a basic textbook that we could use for the Visual
Basic evening class sessions: Visual Basic 2008 by John Giles -
published by Payne Gallway - part of their Basic Projects range.

Looking at a few reviews on Amazon, it looks like it's pitched at the right level and is a good introduction, so yes sounds like a fine choice.

Might be worth going for the 2010 edition but I don't suppose there will be a huge difference.

I'm assuming we should use the VB 2010 Express edition (download free here : http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/visual-basic-express)?
