Birdman is currently in New York promoting the release of his new compilation album, Rich Gang, which hit stores on Tuesday (July 30). The album features contributions from Birdman, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Future, R. Kelly and Chris Brown. While Rich Gang is the project that Birdman is focused on at the moment, he definitely has an eye toward the future.

Birdman also goes on to talk about the upcoming Big Tymers album as well. He mentions that they have already began working on the album and that he's already been in talks with Mannie Fresh and they are about to hit the studio in the next couple weeks to work on new material, presumably for the album. Birdman also revealed that we should expect to hear a single off the Big Tymers' album come September or October.

The Big Tymers work well as a duo, but they're usually at their best when paired up with their Cash Money brethren. "#1 Stunna," the second single from the LP, is a testament to that statement and serves as a symbol of how they officially planted their flag as the hottest record label in rap at that time. The song features verses from Juvenile and Lil Wayne, as well as an appearance by Turk on the hook, and appeared in The Original Kings of Comedy movie, marking their first foray into the world of film. They ultimately released their own gangster flick, Baller Blockin', in 2000. Running down their list of valuables and giving props for stunters of yesteryear like Jackie Chan and McGyver, the Big Tymers shine with "#1 Stunna."

Lil Wayne announced in 2013 that he would be restarting the group alongside Birdman and Drake, but without any contribution from Mannie Fresh. Though an album was planned, no music by the new group ever came to fruition.

So full disclosure: My favorite Lil Wayne verse ever is on "Loud Pipes" from Weezy's Tha Block is Hot album, but Kyle already wrote about that, so I'll save that story for another time. Mostly it involves trying to pull up everywhere smelling like dime sacks and cognac.

At the time, however, our dilemma with "Neighborhood Superstar" was that we didn't know the actual name of the song or what album it was on. It was on one of those mixtapes, and they rarely came with tracklists. As mentioned, this was before you could go to Wikipedia or just Google song lyrics, so we literally had no idea where to look. We figured the song was called "Feared by Many" or "Loved by Broads." It literally could have been from any of the early Cash Money releases. Perhaps it was a B-side to a single or something. Imagine these dark ages. I'm not even sure how we survived as fans.

Finally, after making trips to enough record stores and scouring enough albums' back covers, we put the pieces together that it was on the Hot Boys' Get It How U Live!! and that it was called "Neighborhood Superstar." Instant purchase. Imagine cracking open this cornucopia that is the first Hot Boys album and hearing all of this great Lil Wayne material. (Do yourself a favor and go play "Block Burner" right now.)
