Forgot to take a picture of the form.  It was a relaxed patrol for the final weekend.

Patrol started a bit later than normal, meeting at NH at 0900.  Nordic supplies were loaded into the truck and moved to Longmire for summer storage.  Nordic gear is stored in the L-204 building, which is a long set of garage bays.  Our gear is in the garage bay next to the Recycle sign.

A GAR/beacon check was held at the EOC and we checked in with the Winter rangers to let them know our plans for the day.  We took the Sked up to Narada Falls and pulled the poles between Narada Falls and Canyon Wye.  642 later went and picked up the poles from Inspiration Saddle.

We then drove up to Paradise, which was busy, and did a short patrol up to the bottom of Pan Face and back.  It was toasty when the sun was out but some clouds did move through, reducing visibility.  Snow was gloppy mashed potatoes on the way down. No notable incidents or SARs when we left Paradise about 4pm.

One team of four today:  Deira, Sherry, Laura and Brian.

This was a TGIF patrol day if ever I’ve had one! Glacier Vista can be a Thriller in a white-out, and Hugh will Never Go Back to a splitboard.

Ed Dershem and the winter techs pulled most of the poles and signs Friday. Brian Carpenter’s team gathered the remaining poles on Saturday. Ed tallied signs and all are accounted for. Brian’s team cleaned out the house Saturday. All in all, there wasn’t much left for us to do on Sunday. Thank you Ed, Brian, Deira, Sherry and Laura!

Hugh and Ray joined Deira and me on Sunday morning. Our Call of Duty was to honor all that hard work by having fun. We set out for the base of Panorama Point in a damp fog. When we arrived, though, the fog lowered. We had lunch basking in the sun, PSARing and watching the 50-visitor conga line make its way up Pan Face. Hugh and Deira’s Excellent Adventure was to climb on up the face so Hugh could get some turns on his brand-new AT skis.

Our plan was to return via Edith Creek Basin to check all the poles around Myrtle Falls (left there at Ed’s request, to keep springtime visitors off the footbridge). But when the clouds returned for a total whiteout, that was A Bridge Too Far. We practiced our zero-viz navigation techniques and debate skills and felt our way back to the upper lot by braille.

For those of you who also volunteer in the summer, the only other standing pole is at Fourth Crossing, left there because the JVC tells some snow hikers to turn around there. (Speaking of VIP, FYI Ed is ISO someone to staff the WIC permit desk this summer.)

Ed took possession of the 9 radios and 10 chargers. We parked the truck at the EOC and gave him the keys. We put the last 2 bins of Nordic stuff in the L-204 bay to the right of Recycling. Our stuff is on the left, as shown in earlier photos. Ed is going to find a way to cover the one bin that didn’t have a lid, or transfer those items into a bin with a lid. Tom Eckhout confirmed from a photo that the correct bins of first aid training supplies are in storage where he can pull them for the fall WFA.

In NE-101, the Nordic microwave and glass kettle stayed in the kitchen. Deira searched the house and nothing else of ours remains.

Thanks everyone for a great season. Please have a Summer of Fun and I’ll see you in the fall.
