Today was a FEE FREE Day at the park!
The Winter SAR TECHS (Jenny, Jillian, Ryan) would like to socialize more with our nordic patrol, I would strongly encourage y’all to try and plan potlucks to include three more hungry government paid mouths on Saturday Nights if possible.
The inside windshield of both Tahoes has evidence of being wiped with a microfiber towel when it was foggy on the inside. 100 thousand billion demerit points to whomever did this. I was unable to find windex to clean it off and make it nice. It is extremely annoying when you are driving downhill and the sun is just hitting the windshield at that perfect angle.
Monday, January 20th -
AVY was low, Weather was mild, with highs near 33 Fahrenheit and increasing breezes in the afternoon/evening. Lots of AM Sun and scattered upper altitude clouds to reduce solar intensity ever so slightly. The Sun exposure the snow was getting did not do enough to harvest corn and it was a lot of dust on crust or breakable crust skiing. However, the goods can still be found north facing.
Nordic 1 was two patrollers, Chris Convis and Igor. Mission Areas Deadhorse -> Glacier Vista -> Pan Face Point -> Edith Basin -> Alta Vista -> Valley Road -> 4th Crossing -> Mazama Back Bowls. Encountered many snowshoers attempting the Skyline Loop and conducted PSAR across the Pan Face and Edith Areas. 80 Contacts
Nordic 2 was two patrollers, Laura and Bradley. Mission Area Edith Basin -> Golden Gate -> Skyline Ridge -> Mazama Backbowl …. Nordic 2 Conducted ample PSAR across the Edith Basin and then once on the skyline, found MANY different snowshoe parties utilizing the ALL TRAILS App. These snowshoers were trying to follow summer trail directions and asked Nordic 2 about this, so Nordic 2 had to discourage them from following the literal paths and try to micro-navigate to safer alternatives. 20 Contacts
