Vespucci Summer Institute on Geographic Information Science

Fiesole and Florence, Italy, June 2010

The IGERT Program in Geographic Information Science at the University
at Buffalo invites
applications from U.S. doctoral students for the 2010 Vespucci Summer
Institute on Geographic
Information Science in Fiesole, near Florence, Italy. There will be
only one Vespucci week in
2010, June 13-19. The topic will be "Interfacing social and
environmental modeling," featuring
Gilberto Camara and Henk Scholten as Facilitators. Financial support
available under this
competition will include tuition and fees for the Institute,
accommodation expenses in Fiesole,
and up to $1,900 in travel expenses. Further information about the

We anticipate funding about 10 applicants under this competition.
Support from the Buffalo
IGERT program is limited to US Citizens or Permanent Residents. Others
are encouraged to
apply directly to the Vespucci program.
Week 1 Participants, Vespucci 2009
Applications must include:

• a 1-page statement of the applicant's background and interest in the
2010 School;
• a brief curriculum vitae, including dissertation topic and expected
PhD completion date
• a letter of endorsement from the student's Ph.D. advisor, committee
member, or

department chair.
The application deadline is March 15, 2010. Applications must be
submitted in .pdf or .doc
format, including letter of endorsement, via e-mail attachment, to
nc...@buffalo.edu. We plan to
announce decisions by April 12, 2010.
