Dear colleagues,

My name is Sebastian Lundsteen, and I am the new ESEH regional representative. Since the torch has been passed on to me, I have slowly but steadily gotten to know some of the ins and outs of the position.

There are a few things that I would like to address as a regional representative, but I think that visibility is the most urgent theme to work on.

Internal visibility: Generally, I hope to make our regional group a common resource, but without giving me too much workload. The mailing list here is naturally ideal, but I would be willing to make a general monthly mail with different announcements: CfPs, advertised positions, events etc,.

This means that it would be a good idea to include me in your different mailing lists, send me announcements and so forth. Also, as the mailing list is not only an ESEH member exclusive, please add new people by sending them/their emails to me.

External visibility: After some minor issues with accessing our regional ESEH page, I am now in the process of enhancing my WordPress skills. Though not exactly tech-savvy, I still think I am able to upload information on the website. I will upload different activities there.

There is a wish from the board to enhance regional visibility through the “Environmental History Today” web-seminars. They are great platforms for showing one’s research. There are some dates available, but generally there are heaps of open slots next year.

I will be chairing the session and would especially encourage early career scholars to contact me to set up a neat session – it could be a roundtable, presentation, or an intervention. So please contact me, or, if you know someone who might be cool AND interested, direct them to me.

A little bit about me:

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Futures at the University of Copenhagen. I got my PhD at the Greenhouse, University of Stavanger, under the kind supervision of Finn Arne Jørgensen. Currently, I am a visiting scholar at the Centre of Excellence for Anthropocene History at KTH in Stockholm. I am a part of ESEH NEXTGATe’s cohort, a steering group member of the Green Researcher Network in Denmark and running the “Sustainable Academia” initiative together with Elizabeth Hameeteman.

I work at the intersection of technology, environment, and politics with research ranging from chemical pollution and environmental justice to climate mitigation technologies, and mining closure in the Arctic region. I co-host a podcast, I am transforming my PhD into a ~ 300-page graphic novel, I do zine-making workshops for high school students, live in Copenhagen and have a cat.

My email is s...@hum.ku.dk. You can also add me on LinkedIn or check out my website at www.sebastianlundsteen.com
