J.D. Fisk 'Oakey' DerbyResearch told me that this shoe can run a half to a full size larger than my normal shoe size. So many shoe manufacturers are cutting their shoes longer in the toe area (e.g., Magnanni, etc.), so one needs to be cognizant of this when purchasing shoes from certain brands.
I normally wear a size 9.5, but instead purchased a size 9.0, which is still a bit long in the toe area (but not significantly so). Sizing down to a size 8.5 resulted in too narrow of a fit in the forefoot, so I stuck with the size 9.0.
There is an small oddity with the toe box area. A "toe cap" is sewn in place on the inside of the shoe's toe box area. The edges of the toe cap's outline press up against the soft leather upper, and are sometimes slightly noticeable on the outside of the toe box area. This isn't a material issue in
the performance of the shoe, but it's simply a small aesthetic or cosmetic issue that I noticed (and that others may feel detract from the shoe's look or quality). I'm generally particular about a shoe's aesthetics, but this cosmetic issue wasn't significant to me.
I purchased all four colors and like that the shoe's upper is made with a suede leather finish that's slightly distressed, but not so much so that this shoe can't be worn with both dress and casual clothing. Although it's a versatile style shoe, I prefer this shoe with more casual clothing because the suede leather finish isn't fine enough for the dress clothing I typically wear.
I was pleasantly surprised with the walking comfort of these shoes. I thought the midsole would be thin and the cushioning just okay. However, these shoes are cushioned nicely
throughout the entire sole and generally comfortable to walk in.
Among the four colors, I think the olive color is my favorite because it's both unique and difficult to find in this style of suede leather shoe. I'd recommend this shoe given its versatile style and colors. If you are choosing whether or not to buy J.D. Fisk 'Oakey' Derby, It is an excelent choice. I definitely recommend this! "I bought the dark brown and was overall very please with the quality and look of the shoes. Also, the shoes were delivered on time and the overall process was quite easy. If you like buck's these are very nice shoes. The style is a narrow, sharper toe as opposed to a wide rounded toe." J.D.
