All,
Please take a moment to read through the updates below!
We finally got official approval to grow our championship to 64 teams!! We are working on finalizing the details. As soon as there is info to share, there will be updates!
In attempting to update the advancement numbers, our needs "broke" the scoring system's update process.
Basically, they didn't anticipate mid-season updates to per event advancement and their system will flag, but not fix places where a team that would now advance at an earlier event (rather than the later event they advanced at).
One of the scoring system developers is currently manually updating the advancement counts per event based on a list I sent them. I am optimistic that the updates will be completed in the before the end of the day. Please be aware that we will be doing a final "scrub" of the advancement to make sure that all is proper!
We are planning for robot inspection and judging to take place Saturday 2/28 in the afternoon/early evening. Sunday 3/1 will be a full day of matches!! You can help the event be successful by making sure your team is available to participate in judging and robot inspection on Saturday!!!
We are planning on streaming (pending a reasonable network connection), with two streams, one for each division.
Division assignments should take place early next week, once we have all the advancing teams identified.
There is a very big need for interviewers. If you can spare a few hours it would be greatly appreciated. We have 70 students to get interviewed across the 5 interview days - so really need your help. You can be an interviewer as long as you are not affiliated with a FTC team that submitted a FTC semi-finalist this year. This is all online/remote via Zoom.
This is a great opportunity for FTC Coaches and Mentors to learn more about the Dean's List process overall and gain experience on what the interviewers are looking for.

Hello,
NorCal FIRST Tech Challenge is currently recruiting Dean’s List Interviewers to meet with this year’s semi-final recipients. You are invited to participate!
What is the Dean’s List?
Students who earn FIRST Dean’s List Award status are great examples of student leaders who have led their teams and communities to increased awareness for FIRST and its mission. These students have also achieved personal technical expertise and accomplishment. It is FIRST’s goal that these individuals will continue, post-award, as great leaders, student alumni, and advocates of FIRST and continue their leadership in their own communities.
The Interview Process
Interviews will take place on Feb. 4th, 5th, 10th, 11th, 12th online over Zoom. You are not required to volunteer for all five dates, though we would greatly appreciate support on as many evenings as possible. If you sign up, please plan to be available for the entire time block from 6:30pm to 9pm which includes logging into the interview at 6:30 p.m. You will be provided with the online zoom link and the information for the 4 students' nomination that was submitted.
During the interviews, you will be paired with a second interviewer and interview 4 students at the following times: 7:00pm-7:15pm, 7:30pm-7:45pm, 8:00pm-8:15pm, and 8:30pm-8:45pm. You'll have 15 minutes after each interview to discuss and write notes about the candidate. Everything is low-stress and is meant for you to get to know the students more. There is online, self paced training to do before the interviews to get your ready that is expected to take less than an hour to complete.
If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in, please refer to the registration link.IMPORTANT: If you are interested in the Feb. 4th or 5th interview, please mark the Feb. 6th date as the 4th and 5th dates do not show up due to a FIRST system limitation. Ronnie will reach out to you to sign you up directly for either the 4th, 5th or both dates. You can also note this in the Specific Availability text box when you register.
To apply to be an interviewer, Register here for Dean's List Interviewer (remember to use the Feb. 6th date to register for Feb. 4th and/or Feb. 5th)
