Now that we are
back from the FIRST World Championship / FIRST World Festival, we
are now getting ready for the 2013 season. California FIRST teams
did very well - with awards in FLL, FTC and FRC! FLL 2013 Nature's
Fury team registration opens on May 6th at noon EDT (9am
PDT) at gofll.usfirst.org.
2. FIRST focused "Garage Sale" at The Play Space on May
11th morning. All FIRST teams are invited to sell/barter
FIRST-related items (ie robotics equipment - not general household
items) that they would like within the FIRST community. Playing
At Learning is also accepting donations of robotics items that we
can use to sell and use proceeds to help fund programs. Team
sign ups will be live in the next day or two on www.theplayspace.org
site.
3. 2013 Season Planning on Saturday May 25th : Ideas
on improving the "Coaches Coffees"? Have feedback on improving
rookie coach experience? Interested in hosting/organizing a
qualifier? Please plan on attending. We are expecting to
divide the day up into specific topics/sessions between ~10am
to ~3pm. More details will be on the norcalfll.org site
shortly.
4. FLL Project Symposia on Sunday June 2nd Team
invitation and registration link will be available by this
weekend. First priority will be given to teams that have
received project-based awards at a tournament. There will be a
$5 entrance fee to offset renting equipment.
5. The Play Space Open house / Volunteer Appreciation /
Anniversary party will be on Saturday June 8th afternoon - mark
your calendars. Everyone is invited to an informal get together
in a social environment. We would like a few teams to come and
demonstrate their robot and project, so if interested, let me
know. - I have heard from one team but would like more than one.
6. Playing At Learning Summer Camps: Playing At
Learning will be offering week-long FLL-based Mindstorms robotic
camps this summer at "The Play Space" in San Jose. Details are
on www.theplayspace.org site
under Classes/Camps and registration is open.
