Date/Location:
February 3065 / Alarion, Lyran Alliance (Class A)
Mission Briefing:
Once you arrive in the Alarion system it’s easy to see why House Steiner would send a battlemech regiment to this world. Between its status as a provincial capital, a number of industries including Jumpship and Warship manufacturers, the Bowie Industries manufacturing facilities, and the Alarion Naval Academy, the Lyran Commonwealth has too much to lose on this world.
XO Thames wastes no time investigating the rumors of an armed resistance to the Civil War here and quickly finds a way to meet with some of these ‘radicals’. A briefing is called a few days later.
Once you are settled in, XO Thames begins the briefing by saying, “Okay everyone, rather than the usual briefing, our new client has left us a message that will give you all the details.”
He presses a button on his tablet and an audio message begins playing from the speakers in the briefing room. The voice is distorted to obfuscate the messenger's identity.
“I am Rohrkabel, and if you are hearing this message, it means you found my dead-drop in one of the satellites orbiting Alarion. I’d congratulate you, but we’re far from being able to celebrate at this point. While I am not part of the resistance on the ground, I am here to assist it, but I’ll need your help to make that possible. Here’s the job:
I have an agent on the ground ready to execute an operation at the Port Sydney Naval Shipyards that will benefit you and the resistance, but it will draw the attention of the First Lyran Regulars heavy company guarding the facility. Your job is to distract the defenders and keep them occupied while my agent does their work. Your distraction will take the form of a resistance raid on the port’s storage yard. Destroy as many of the containers in the storage yard as you can, but leave the other buildings intact. The longer you can keep the defenders distracted, the better–my agent needs all the time you can give them. Once my agent reports in and confirms their job is done, you’ll get paid. I’ve attached additional intel regarding recommended force compositions, resistance paint schemes, and my agent’s comm frequency to this message. Good hunting.”
Primary - Destroy storage containers in the Port Sydney Naval Shipyards
Secondary - Constrain your force deployment to the limitations recommended by Rohrkabel (see below)
Tertiary - Destroy units of the First Lyran Regulars assigned to defend the facility
Rohrkabel’s intel suggests that in order to play the part of resistance fighters convincingly, you should avoid fielding any heavy or assault-class units, since the First Lyran Regulars would not expect the resistance to have such equipment. Additionally, fielding too many units or too much tonnage will bring a higher level of scrutiny to your actions, potentially exposing Rohrkabel’s agent and their operations. Each player may bring up to three units. To avoid extra suspicion, AA should keep its total force tonnage below (not equal to) 270 tons.
