Hello gents,

Its been a bit, and I've been just a touch busy.  I was hoping some of you wouldn't mind testing a little battletech based browser game I created:

https://bst3025.net/

works (?) in my versions (?) of chrome and firefox.

(don't use safari, it seems to not like SVG filters, whatever the heck that means)

Regards,

kamil

Hey Kam,

I gave it a quick play. It's interesting. Reminds me of Privateer. I did notice some wonky contract costs. 1x,xxx for a contract seems low compared to everything else. I do like how the jump bubbles reflect the z axis.

Jack Burton FTW.

Cheers,

Josh

Awesome!

You must have seen a nuclear waste contract.  It wasn't high on my priority list to fix, but it does need to go.

Key question is: did it feel like battletech?

The map and contracts do, but only because I know a bit about Battletech. I think it's a little lacking in fluff. I'd like to see more fluff for each system. That might help. Ideally there would be an actual campaign goal to achieve beyond, " Just keep swimming." 3025 is the 3rd succession war's tail end segueing into the 4th. Most of these economies are completely borked. Right now, I don't feel part of any narrative. ATM it's a presumably endless series of fetch quests.

Cheers,

Josh

Fluff for each system makes sense.   What kind of fluf would you think would help.

Also, please explain what you think is borked about the economics.  (trying to back into an economic model from BT lore is painful, so I'm pretty sure its nowhere near 'right')

Since this is an economic game, what these worlds produce or need. Recent history, notable events, recent troop movements or conflicts. Rumors are always fun.

Ignoring FASAnomics, by 3025 the inner sphere simply couldn't wage war on the scale they once could. They're resting, resupplying, and short on everything both civilian and military. Great time to be a jumpship trader.

Cheers,

Josh

thats a level of depth I hadn't thought of.  thank you.

now that I have a core engine that stuff will be easier to add/personalize.   I have a copy of mechwarrior (rpg) somewhere and an idea about how I'm going to let you personalize your character with different skill choices but thats a ways off.

Sounds fun. I look forward to seeing where you go with it. 😀
