Game 143: The Doom That Came to Alarion - Mission Debrief

Date/Location:

March 12, 3065 / Alarion, Lyran Alliance (Class A)

Ioto Galactic Enterprises North Bay Storage Yards, 04:05 local time

You rendezvous with Dmitri Mordvinov and the rest of the forces originally sent to extract Dr. Romero at the Ioto Galactic Enterprises North Bay Storage Yard.  As you bring your vehicles and mechs to rest inside appropriated containers and under tarps, you still can’t get the final scene at the Port Sydney base out of your mind.  What happened there?  How did the Black Marauder get those mechs to move without pilots?

You don’t get to reflect for long before you are stirred by Miss Black contacting you on your comms.

“Give me a sitrep, extraction team,” she demands without hesitation.

“Mission accomplished, ma’am,” Andrew Kasprzyk answers.  “We’re even heavy two salvage units, but…” he trails off.

“What is it?”  Miss Black asks.  “What happened?”

“The Black Marauder…it…it took over almost a battalion’s worth of mechs at the base,” Kasprzyk replies.

“What do you mean it took them over?” Miss Black asks.

Kasprzyk recounts the haunting sight–the tendrils of light, the mechs writhing in their bays, and then their pilot-less activation.

“That doesn’t make any sense, Kasprzyk,” says Miss Black, “are all of you sure about what you saw?”

Several of you chime in to confirm.

There’s a short pause before Miss Black says “I should have heard from Dr. Romero by now.  I’m going to try contacting him while I have us gathered.  Maybe he’s found something to explain this.”

There’s a short pause before Miss Black calls out, “Dr. Romero, this is Stygian.  Do you read me?  Please come in, Dr. Romero.”

The signal is choppy, but you hear Dr. Romero groan and his voice quavers terribly.

“S-S-Stygian?  Is…is that you?” he asks.  You hear Nora Klaasen mumbling incoherently in the background while Cartman Parker is retching violently.

“Yes, Dr. Romero, this is Stygian,” Miss Black responds.  “What did you find at the crash site?”

Doctor Romero slowly stutters out “S-Sigils…sp-spatial…anom’ly…augh” before going silent.

“Dr. Romero!  Dr. Romero, please respond!” Miss Black shouts, but there is no response.

“I’m sending the XO out to Dr. Romero to find out what’s happening there,” she says.  “In the meantime, standby and try to make yourselves comfortable.  I’ll have orders for you soon.”
