After attending the May 16 State College Borough Planning Commission meeting, I am more convinced than ever that too much power lies in the hands of too few. The fact that a single person, the director of planning and zoning, is the sole decider on an issue such as 'change of land use' regarding the conversion of a power plant in the middle of downtown is outrageous!
The fact that regulatory issues (such as impervious area) are the guidance, and community health, safety and welfare, as well as homeland security, aren't included in the decision making process is disheartening and troubling.
I hope our Community Bill of Rights can change how our local laws and regulations work.
