to NOPD 3rd District Email Blast
Dear Friends,

Throughout the years, we have given you all sorts of crime information
with our email blast. Today, I would like to use it for a different
reason.

After much consideration, I have decided to retire from the New
Orleans Police Department. For 35 1/2 years, I have worked at a job I
truly love. But all good things must come to an end. My wife will
also be leaving her job with the LSU Dental School, and we will retire
together on August 14th, 2010.

I will miss not only the officers I worked with every day, but my many
friends throughout the 3rd District. I want to thank you, the
citizens of our district, for giving me the opportunity to work with
you in making our neighborhoods a safe place to live. It has been my
good fortune to meet a large number of wonderful people during the
course of my duties over the years. I will not forget the help and
support you have given me and the friendship I have made. We have
shared a camaraderie which I will take with me and always remember.

I leave you in good hands. The men and women of the 3rd will continue
to battle the criminal element. They are the ones who do the hard
work and will continue to keep you safe. It is an exiting time for
NOPD. The department is moving forward, and with many great changes
to come, the 3rd District will become an even better place to live.

I feel that it is time for me to move on. The decision was not an
easy one to make, but it is time to enjoy the grandkids and just take
life a little easier.

I will always be grateful for your friendship and support.

Yours sincerely,

Captain Greg Elder
