do i need to have Java knowledge?

I want to contribute for this project. i am good in C.
Do i need to learn Java? what are the prerequisites?

I guess it is better to know java than c, because of style of
programming.
Java is object oriented, platform independent language and noop is
that also.
C is designed for lower level programming.
