Hello Everyone,

Just a point of clarification about responding to messages posted on the NTSC listserv since there seems to be a few individuals having some trouble, when you simply hit "reply" in a message that comes from the NTSC listserv, it will try and post that response to the listserv directly. The very same listserv that sends messages to everyone and caused such an uproar last time. Our list has now been set to a moderated status to prevent this from ever happening again so if you respond to the listserv, your message will essentially not be received (it does, technically, but only in the sense that we see that someone tried to post, the contents of the email are almost always garbled and unreadable).

You can tell that a message comes from the listserv as a list posting by seeing the subject of " [Non-traditional_Students_of_OSU] " and you will see "A social group of non-traditional students at OSU" where a person's name is usually found as the "from" address. This basically means the message doesn't come from a person, but rather a listserv, so responding to it directly is not the right course of action. You may also come across this with any other listserv that you are part of, for example if you hit "reply" to a message sent to all OSU students (" [OSU-Students] " or "All Students List") your reply, which may be intended to be private, will be broadcasted to everyone on the list, in this case, every single OSU student from here to Bend.

So again, if you would like to respond to my original posting requesting a photo for the membership portion of our website, please read the actual email and send the message directly to the email address included in the body of that message, do not simply hit "reply" to this message that you are reading or any message you receive from any listserv as it will not route your message in the way you intended.

Part of what our club offers is technological instruction to bring individuals up to speed with how different types of technology are used around OSU, everything from how to use Blackboard, ONID email, listservs, registering for a class or withdrawing from a class, to how to use basic functions of Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. If you are interested in NTSC setting up one of these workshops, you may also send that message along with either a member photo or a request to not use a photo to my email address and I will make sure that the right people get the message so that we can get that set up as soon as possible. We're hoping to have a workshop scheduled for near the end of fall term and if enough people show an interest, we can make sure that the technology workshop is the one that we hold during that time.

Thanks again for being a member and if there is any topic that you would like to have as a potential workshop, feel free to send an email to nontradit...@oregonstate.edu as we are happy to help level the playing field for non-traditional students at OSU and chances are that if you are looking for more information on a particular topic, that many others are feeling the same way. We have over 80 members of this club, so the chances are really high!

Thanks,

J. McGregor
