Itrandomly stopped working and won't open at all, I can't find SearchHost.exe to check if it's enabled and I am seriously stressed because I can't open certain files or my driver installer without searching

I just bought a brand new Surface Pro 9 today and I've already experienced an issue with the search. It was not even accepting input and the app list wasn't loading correctly. Why would a brand new computer be buggy already? Is it just a Windows 11 problem? If so, I want Windows 10 back.

This is a new HP OMEN laptop which worked great until 15 minutes ago when the Start Bar Search function stopped working, it flashes on screen when you try to access it then disappears. Your recommendation is not helpful as there is no "Update and Security" tab. There is a "Privacy and Security" tab which does not have a "Troubleshoot" in the menu. The "Update" tab is also missing any "Troubleshoot" in the menu. Perhaps I am missing something??

I was able to restore Search bar function by going to Taskbar settings - personalization and toggling off the Copilot (preview) then restarting the computer. The search bar is now working. Hope this helps!

Ofc it's a bug, like so many other things in explorer, and of course they will give you useless troubleshooting information. Anyway, try f5 or going out of the folder and back in again, that generally does the trick for me.

I just did a scan of the internet and found over 1,000 inquiries about this exact same problem. My Windows search bar is not working on my Windows 11 Pro machine. When it first started doing this, I could undo it with Windows Restore. It was a Windows update that was causing the problem. But now it doesn't help no matter what I do. It appears that Microsoft is turning us all a deaf ear and the so-called community helpers are telling us to do ridiculous things that they already know will not help. I guess they are trying to make us all feel good that they are trying to do something, when in fact they are just wasting all of our time!

I refused the update to 11 numerous times, but MS did it anyway. My search box does not work, many of the programs and documents I use for work are unusbale and the document programs are unwieldy, have features that are overly difficult to use and force you to use the cloud or other that you do not want to use. I have tried the ridiculous "trouble shooter" numerous times for numerous problems. IT HAS NEVER WORKED! MS need to fire you all!

I got annoyed by the constant push for the update to windows 11 so I made this batch script to block any version updates from Microsoft. all you need to do is reinstall windows 10 and then run this as a .bat file

It would be because these people don't give a flip about the people who pay their bills by buying these machines. They don't care to listen and I believe they intentionally make it so that you can't figure out how to undo the BS they redo when they are "updating" the system. I think people need to seriously look over the consumer laws we have and think about how Microsoft tampers with the system in places they shouldn't be (like your personal settings when they want to swap it over to Spotlight so that you HAVE to see their freaking ads because they KNOW that everyone just LOVES having ads shoved in their faces buy pushy companies.

The menu steps do not work for the current Windows 11 build 22H2. There is no Update & Security in Windows settings. Also have to use Windows key + I to open Settings. What is the latest path to fix this problem please?

If you open (win11) Personalisation>Taskbar>Task Bar Items>Search - and then deselect Search Box, and select any of the other option, that will fix this.Because, the option 'Search Box' does not work - the only options that do work are 'Hide', 'Search Icon Only', 'Search Icon and Label'.

This morning, when I started my PC, search ad again stopped working. I looked through the process list in Task Manager and noticed that the process SearchIndexer.exe was in the "Suspended" state. I killed that process and it was very quickly restarted automatically. At that point my search functionality returned.

It is not a Windows Search problem, its an UI problem.Just kill the process explorer.exe and the start menu and search bar will start working again. And this issue IS related to a Windows Update, but MS is too retarded to fix it.

Brand new computer, I was only able to diagnose this because the game Valorant requires TPM 2.0 to play and it has so since last year. I'd been playing this game for a number of weeks and all of a sudden the other day it wouldn't let me play because TPM 2.0 was not detected. After calls with HP support and Windows support I'm still stuck. TPM is enabled in the BIOS but device manager does not show a security processor, "Security processor troubleshooting" notes that my device does not support this feature, tpm.msc notes "compatible TPM cannot be found". I would think TPM was working as I was able to play Valorant up until recently so not sure what happened. I've tried to "Reset PC" in full, tried to reimage with flash drive but can't because windows 11 install requires TPM which is not detected.

Oddly, and I think related, a week or two ago at every startup I was being asked for my Bitlocker key which was getting annoying. I disabled Bitlocker on the computer to avoid this and I had all the bitlocker settings that I could play with. Since the above issue, I've noticed there is no longer any Bitlocker settings on the computer, they have seemingly all disappeared.

One odd thing in the BIOS is that I've tried to clear the TPM keys and the note says that it will ask for confirmation via "Physical Presence" detection, I go to save BIOS settings but I don't get any prompts for confirmation, it just restarts. It also says that once TPM keys are cleared on next startup it will automatically change "Clear TPM Keys" to "No" but it doesn't do this after multiple startups. I'm not sure if the BIOS menu is showing that these changes are being made but maybe they aren't actually taking effect.

Anyways I'm at a loss, brand new computer, TPM and Secure Boot enabled in BIOS, but TPM is not detected by Windows. I would guess they were prior to a few days ago because Valorant was able to work before this.

4 - Changing the Clear TPM notes that "Physical Presence" check is required by BIOS, does not happen when you change this setting, just restarts after save. ALSO it says after they have been cleared on next setup it will revert back to No, it stays as yes until I manually change it back which makes me question if turning this to Yes is even doing anything...

Dilip_18 - Thank you for the comments but alas I don't think there is a path forward and HP is asking me to return the computer as the only solution, thus I will be taking my business elsewhere. On your specific points:

2. HP Omen BIOS does not show the appropriate advanced BIOS features to enable the CPU's - Regarding the BIOS I found a similar issue in the following thread. As this person's chip was not on the motherboard itself but on the CPU (as is mine we are assuming) they had to change BIOS setting of "TPM Device Selection" to one where the CPU would be seen for TPM. The Omen BIOS doesn't have any options like this, is this potentially an oversight in the BIOS that there aren't enough settings that can be adjusted to allow for a CPU TPM module? -us/windows/forum/all/tpm-20-enabled-but-not-showing-in-windows/8fc7...

Also at the following link it discusses enabling CPU's FTPM/PTT but notes the caveat that some motherboards may be lacking the BIOS setting to enable CPU's TPM. There are VERY limited TPM settings on the Omen BIOS related to TPM. If this were the case this is a big issue with new Omen computers and Windows 11 now requiring TPM. -to-check-windows-tpm-status-enable-cpu-amd-ftpm-intel-ptt/

If you find the Advanced settings tab missing in the BIOS, that is because the manufacturer has locked the settings on your computer as the improper use of the Advanced settings in BIOS could damage your computer. It is not available on this model.

Omen 45L uses a chip on the motherboard for the TPM controller. It's behind the video card and the MB says "BIOS" next to it. Datasheet: W25Q128JV - Serial NOR Flash - Code Storage Flash Memory - Winbond. Intel's TTP is disabled by default. As pointed out Omen's bios does not give the option to select the CPU TTP. Presumably this was to stop retail basic people from changing it and messing up the boot.

The TPM module most likely got corrupted. One thing to try is to set up a bios password as resetting the TPM may require that. Otherwise, you'll need to swap out the motherboard as reprogramming the TPM chip would also requiring flashing the bios and there are no bios files available from HP to do that.

I really appreciate the feedback. I did try the setting BIOS password just now with no luck, same day my box showed up from HP for a repair so I will be sending back to them to see if they can figure it out. I'm going to point them to your post as the HP support folks thought the 45L TPM was coming from the CPU.

However, all of a sudden the scanner stopped working an throws up an error saying no scanner found. Upon removing the scanner cable and reconnecting it with auto mode on works perfectly. So, I figured this could be due to the drivers and it was indeed showing up that the dirvers aren't taken even though it is already installed and has been working.

So I did a complete windows update, ininstalled the software, drivers... etc and reinstalled it again with no success. Device manager still shows that it's not picked up the drivers. I have tried both the USB ports with no luck. So I tried it on a different PC and it was all working fine.

we have several users that use the same computer with different login profiles and for some reason the scanner will work for 1 person but if that person logs off and i have another employee log in witht their own profile the scanner is not recognized.
