Dear All,

I am meeting with the Deputy Minister and his staffs from the Ministry of Education next week to discuss the current state of homeschooling in Taiwan.

If you have any suggestion or concern, please let me know by the end of business on Friday the 4th.

Best wishes,

Tim

Here's one: we have four kids -- eventually I'll be applying to homeschool all four of them. Current law as I understand it requires in this case that we register as an official cram school with the attendant regulations about fire exits and such. This is ridiculous and unreasonable. We are just a normal (large) family. Can we 免掉 this stupid red tape?

Interesting.  Does this mean that crams schools can now teach regular academic subjects?  If so, maybe there's a new service our English school can provide.  Just joking.  Having run our school for over 15 years, we're quite familiar with ridiculous rules.

But now on to Tim's request.  If alternative education is going to become accessible to average Taiwanese, I think that it's important to push for the allowance of larger "group homeschools / alternative schools".  Otherwise, how can parents who need two incomes or parents with lower educational levels ever provide their children with a meaningful educational experience?

Hi
I am sure this may have been covered but i want to check the following. As a foreigner (married to another foreigner) is there any kind of registration i need to do for honeschooling? I have been told there is nothing i need to do but want to make sure. Kids are 4&7.
Thanks
Heather
