A small Word docx document viewer. Many users don't have Microsoft Word or still use Word 2003 version or even earlier, Docx Reader can help you to open, view and read the docx format documents, and don't need Microsoft Word installed in your PC.
The docx format is a Office Open XML format, a new compressed XML-based file format. Office Open XML is also informally known as OOXML or OpenXML, it is developed by Microsoft for representing spreadsheets, charts, presentations and word processing documents.
After receiving an email with a docx file attachment, I was unable to open it. The error message says, Adobe Reader cannot open ....docx either because it is not a supported file type or the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). This is a very important document and more may follow soon. Should I uninstall Adobe Reader, then try to open the document ansd save it to the computer before reinstalling Adobe?
The .docx file I chose was the won I cannot open. I had downloaded it to documents but it still won't open. After trying the new suggestion (Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Office/Office 14) a file search came up empty. Tomorrow, I'll try to contact Microsoft to find out why. Thanks for your help. I'm sure if I ever manage to locate WinWord.exe it will work.
I am going to double-check on this (I will have several Mac users open a .docx file created from MS Word, and then .docx file created from LO). I believe it is the case that they can open the .docx from MS Word and NOT from LO, because I did not have this problem before (with MS Word .docx files) they opened in the past.
Please take care - the format is called: Office Open XML Text (Transitional) (.docx), which got nothing to do with OpenOffice (I admit, that this is really confusing nomenclature) - see Office Open XML.

What I think works best will depend on which programs are central to the project. And for most users here, I assume Obsidian will be one of those. But I personally find it an inconvenience if many of the source files are docx and PDF and the later stages of the project uses those formats too.
