Advertisers and websites track your behavior online with cookies that stay on your computer. CCleaner erases your browser search history and cookies so any internet browsing you do stays confidential and your identity remains anonymous.
It looks like I'm not the only one to experience this. Two things happening: 1) When Kamo is active, Firefox won't load websites - notification is "Secure connection failed" It appears that the websites are timing out on the attempt to connect. 2) When Kamo notifies me of an upgrade - like the recent v2.3 one - the Kamo banner simply can't be gotten rid of - can't click the "Got It" button, can't close the banner. Can't access any other PC functions.

I just installed KAMO as part of an upgrade to my CCleaner program today 10/19/2021 and I could not access any of my websites or do much of anything. I uninstalled KAMO and everything went back to normal. I paid for an update which was supposed to include this program but I definitely won't be reinstalling it until the CCleaner crew get it fixed. I use Microsoft Edge as my browser and it was completely non-responsive with KAMO installed. I'm no tech guru but I knew enough that if my computer was working perfectly before a program was installed that the best cure for any hiccups that occurred afterwards were quite likely directly related to that program and the best solution is to completely uninstall it which was the only solution I could use that was effective.
I got an email supposedly from CCleaner that the MOVEit vulnerability had gained access to ccleaner and my info. They asked me to protect myself by clicking on a link and following instructions. A scam? Has ccleaner had such a problem?
In order to verify that this was indeed from CCleaner, and not some sort of attempt at a scam, or other fraud, I made enquires via the official CCleaner web site using the form provided.
CCleaner also has its own web browser called CCleaner Browser. CCleaner Browser is included to optionally install in the CCleaner installer, but it can also be installed from its website. CCleaner Browser avoids advertising, avoids tracking, has built-in security against all kinds of malware, phishing, malicious downloads, and also avoids unwanted elements such as pop-ups or excessive browser cache. It is based on Google's free and open-source project Chromium. The browser is only available for Microsoft Windows.[citation needed]
I've heard that CCleaner is a great program, I've also heard that it is spyware/adware. I have installed CCleaner from the official website (piriform) and I've scanned the file with Malwarebytes. It came out clean. I just have a couple of questions. What do you guys have to say about CCleaner, is it safe, is it harmful etc? Also, I've heard a lot of people say that the registry cleaner can potentially harm your computer and to not run it. I haven't run it at all because I don't want anything messing with my registry. But the normal cleaner that cleans applications and cookies etc, I've run at least 7-8 times. I've had CCleaner downloaded for a little over a week and just now thought to ask you guys. Also, I've heard that if you use CCleaner too many times, it'll kill your computer, how true is that? I only run CCleaner when I'm done browsing and working, just before shutting down, but I do this every day. Is it safe to? Thanks and I look forward to hearing your opinions.
The details of a massive data breach impacting Piriform, the company that created the popular system cleanup software CCleaner and was acquired by Avast in July 2017, indicate that the first point of compromise occurred using stolen credentials. The malware attack infected over 2.3 million users who downloaded or updated the CCleaner app from the official website with the compromised version of the software in August and September last year.
I don't think this is Firefox, I have IE and it still won't work. I go onto my Homepage and type in "Ccleaner/Piriform" A list of them come up. I pick the 'official' page for them, but when I try to download it, or whatever you call it (clicking on it?) All I get is a blank page with the 'little wheel' spinning, but it never downoads. Tried several others and ended up getting a hacker "Trivio" (Big mess) cleared that, but can't get Ccleaner at all. When I click the "Home" it flashes on for a second then disappears and Home comes up.I need something to clear my History. Thank you.
Thank you for your research. And yes, I'm aware of clearing my history. But I also like to use Ccleaner by Piriform. My problem was being able to get their web page. I tried it also on my Tablet, and got a warning that the site was not safe. So I did go to another website phillo.....? and was able to download it. Thank you again. ferngully2
Thanks for the reply Chris Pratt, what about clearing cache from websites, last open files or whatever it's called in Windows, searches, etc.? I always liked that feature about CCleaner as it got me sort of a "fresh start" if you know what I mean?

Exactly. As in matter of fact whenever I setup a new computer for a customer I always installed CCleaner. Never an issue. Piriform is NOT a shady company what so ever. In 10 years of using their products the most I have ever seen is Google Chrome or Google Toolbar pre packaged with the installer. But I always download only from Piriform's website.
Best place for me to DL CCleaner (and the excellent CCEnhancer) is Major Geeks. Never had a single issue with MG in a very long time of using their website - neither does Eset or my former Russian AV suite.
CCleaner products and the features they offer are built with security, safety, and privacy in mind; therefore, if you download CCleaner from a dependable website like ccleaner.com, Amazon, the Microsoft Store in Windows, or any reliable download portal, it will be secure to use.

CCleaner, a popular junk cleaning tool, has been hacked. This means that about 20 million users worldwide have their devices compromised to the attackers. All that by downloading it from the OFFICIAL website!
CCleaner is one of the most frequently used and popular maintenance apps that you can find in Windows. Now there is the official Piriform app for Android devices, which will allow you to carry out almost the same actions that the desktop version does.
Uptodown is a multi-platform app store specialized in Android. Our goal is to provide free and open access to a large catalog of apps without restrictions, while providing a legal distribution platform accessible from any browser, and also through its official native app.
Many of the articles implied that 2 billion users were affected with an additional 5 million every week. This comes from the fact that since CCleaner started, it has been downloaded 2 billion times with 5 million a week being currently downloaded, as presented on their website. However, this is several orders of magnitude different from the actual affected users. As only two smaller distribution products (the 32 bit and cloud versions, Windows only) were compromised, the actual number of users affected by this incident was 2.27M. And due to the proactive approach to update as many users as possible, we are now down to 730,000 users still using the affected version (5.33.6162). These users should upgrade even though they are not at risk as the malware has been disabled on the server side.
Some media reports suggest that the affected systems needed to be restored to a pre-August 15th state or reinstalled/rebuilt. We do not believe this is necessary. About 30% of CCleaner users also run Avast security software, which enables us to analyze behavioral, traffic and file/registry data from those machines. Based on the analysis of this data, we believe that the second stage payload never activated, i.e. the only malicious code present on customer machines was the one embedded in the ccleaner.exe binary. Therefore, we consider restoring the affected machines to the pre-August 15 state unnecessary. By similar logic, security companies are not usually advising customers to reformat their machines after a remote code execution vulnerability is identified on their computer.
CCleaner in the Microsoft Store was made possible by the new policies Microsoft introduced last year. Developers can publish unpackaged apps and use their content delivery systems. After installing CCleaner, the app will be updating itself outside the Microsoft Store. The only change here is that users can download CCleaner without navigating to the app's official website.
