The offline package can be used in situations in which the web installer cannot be used because of a lack of Internet connectivity. @Yoann same issue here. Clean install of Windows Server 2019 latest build, install .NET Framework offline installer 4.8, reboot and boom. Many native control panels, like Server Manager, requesting some 4.0.... version of .NET framework instead, failing to load.
YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND! THANK YOU! THIS IS THE ONLY SOLUTION THAT WORKED! Every other solution I've googled of this problem has been some variation of "turn net framework on/off in the "turn windows features on or off" app" or "reinstall the newest version of .net" or "did you try restarting your computer?" (OF COURSE I TRIED RESTARTING MY COMPUTER!! DO THEY THINK I'M AN INFANT??)
I am trying to install .net framework 3.5 onto windows server 2019 that is offline. I have downloaded the offline installer dotnetfx35.exe but I get an error when trying to install the exe when double clicking on it. Any advise online says to use the windows ISO but I do not have it. Is there anyway you can use the offline installer of dotnetfx35.exe on windows server 2019?
You could install offline here.

I am installing .NET 3.5 framework on windows server 2012.I downloaded dotNetFx35setup.exe from Microsoft website and copied it to a location E:\Sources\SxS.On every link on google they are telling about this SxS folder, so did it like this. But still I am not able to install .NET framework from GUI .I selected .NET in features and specified the path to E:\Sources\SxS.What I am doing wrong ??
I am unable to install the .Net 3.5 feature from the server manager, powershell, cmd (DISM), or offline installer. I have followed all steps from the MS article: -us/help/2734782/net-framework-3-5-installation-error-0x800f0906-0x8... Opens a new window and the steps in -net-framework-35-server-2012 Opens a new window none of which resolved my error.
I even downloaded the windows server 2012 ISO, mounted it to a different drive letter on the server, and tried to point the install to locate the source files from there but it still comes back that it can't find the source files. When I try to run the offline installer it immediately comes back saying that I must install through Windows Roles and Features. I don't know what else I can do at this point so I am hoping someone might be able to offer some help
The install requires that a particular file be present in
C:\Windows\WinSxS (where windows looks for installation components).
Or you can place microsoft-windows-netfx3-ondemand-package.cab (You can extract it from a server 2008 CD.)
anywhere on the server and indicate that location in the alternative source path in adding
roles and features wizard.
I just manage to install it using a free trial evaluation of Windows 2012 R2. -fr/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-10-enterpriseI had to decompress the ISO, and Copy/paste the iso/sources/sxs folder to a temp folder to the server (less than 300Mo).Regards.
From Automation Engine 18.0 onwards, this is no longer an issue as Automation Engine 18.0 ships with a SQL Express 2017, which no longer needs the .NET Framework 3.5. This version needs the .NET Framework 4.6.1. The Automation Engine installer will check and install the .NET Framework 4.6.1 (if the installed version is lower). For this version, there exists an offline installer which is distributed along with Automation Engine 18.0.

Hi, Thanks for sharing the farmeworks. I have a serious question here. Actually i have a windows application current version is .net2.0 and I plan to migrate the app into .net 4.5 but here is a catch under my solution folder i have several modules out of that one is compatable with XP os since the 3rd party components are not supportive with win7 and later. Now suggest me on the below questions.
1. If i build the code in the 4.5 framework is it backward compactable with the .net 3.5 which is already been installed in my XP OS?
2. else, If i build the code in 4.0 framework is it compactable with the .net 3.5 which is already been installed in my XP OS?
3. Since my solution having a sharing BL and DA layers for different modules i dont know how to handle this situatuion?
Please expecting a fast respone. Many Thanks in advance.
i am going to install ansys 13 software in windows 8. i am getting problem that it asks microsoft net framework 3.5 sp1 patch, microsoft net framework 3.0 sp2 patch, microsoft net framework 2.0 sp2 patch. what shoud i do? plz help me.
if the above method does not work for you. Use add feature via server manager tick to install .net35 framework and on the next page specify the sources\sxs\path which should be you iso dvd. this should work.
Good article! .NET Framework 4.5 is installed by default in Windows Server 2012, it should not be removed! if you remove your NET Framework 4.5 for Windows Server 2012 you can excpect some problems, this is the solution. -net-framework-4-5-server-2012
1. thx for this post!
2. The path to the sxs folder is in your Windows Installation Disk.
3. For those who want read this in German, here is a link:

Many thanks Daniel. I had similar experience as Sam (March 15th) where nothing worked, even an offline installer. Tried your command line version and this worked a treat. Many hours of head scratching saved !!
Cheers, Alan.
Unlike installing the other features in Windows Server 2016, installing the .NET Framework 3.5 on an offline server requires the use of the installation disk and specifically the SxS distribution folder. So, you will either need to unpack the installation ISO to a local or network folder or to mount it on the machine before you install it.
While there is no need to install any update to upgrade to Version 1803, for users who are using older versions of Windows 10 like 1709, 1703, and 1607, Microsoft has released a separate update for them so that they can download and install .NET Framework 4.7.2 separately..NET Framework 4.7.2 comes with two installers; the web installer and the offline installer. The web installer is the stub installer which will start the download process after it is run, while the offline installer does not require an active internet connection for installation.
All these links are direct links to the offline installers for Microsoft .Net Framework 4.7.2 and are safe to download. Both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems are supported (except Windows 8.1 RT).Download .NET Framework 4.7.2 Offline Installer 32/64-bit
Microsoft has also provided language packs for 23 supported languages for .NET Framework 4.7.2. You can select and download the language pack of your choice and run the installer. This will convert the error messages and GUI text of the framework to your desired language.Download .NET Framework 4.7.2 language packsIf you are a developer, you may download the developer pack from below:

Thanks for the feedback. UseWUServer = 0 should take care of the problem.Solution #2 to (offline) install the optional feature eg., .NET framework, RSAT tools, etc., works even if UseWUServer is set to 1.Another Grateful Windows UserMay 17, 2019 at 5:57 amThank you, Step 1 solved my problem!
With step1 if you just restart the windows update service after changing the registry there is no reboot required. This makes it easier for those of us that use GPOs which will overwrite the change after restart. Another admin manages the WSUS server and he was out of the office so this was a great workaround until he is back so I can throw things at him until he fixes it.
