It was a pretty short update but the project is still on. I still have you to remember that the GK season 4 project can be dropped at any moment due to specific reasons. But as of today, nothing stops us, and we move on :).

Damage assessment is still ongoing and the State Minister will meet with the Regional Disaster Management Committed early evening 12th to discuss if an emergency will be declared and if international assistance will be requested.

Last fall and winter virus season, people who received the 2022-2023 COVID-19 vaccine had greater protection against severe illness and hospitalization than those who did not receive that vaccine. We are still at risk of COVID-19 since the virus continues to change and new variants emerge. Additionally, protection from COVID-19 vaccines and infection decline over time. An updated COVID-19 vaccine provides enhanced protection against the variants currently responsible for most hospitalizations in the United States.

More than half of children younger than 2 years of age who were admitted to an intensive care unit with COVID-19 had been previously healthy with no underlying medical conditions. Infants younger than 6 months, who are not eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine, have the highest rates of hospitalization. COVID-19 vaccines are safe to give during pregnancy. Pregnant people should get the updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves and their baby.

Under the Affordable Care Act, all insurance companies are required to cover vaccines that are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), including the updated COVID-19 vaccines. All children without insurance can get their COVID-19 vaccine under the Vaccines for Children Program. Uninsured or underinsured adults can get their COVID-19 vaccine for free under the Bridge Access Program through the end of 2024 from participating providers, HRSA-supported health centers, and pharmacies. Uninsured or underinsured adults can go to vaccines.gov to find COVID-19 vaccines at no cost to them. The COVID-19 vaccines available at no cost through the Bridge Access Program will become available across the United States at the same time as these vaccines become available through regular insurance and standard mechanisms.

The Public Sector blog has an article on how Satellogic and AWS are harnessing the power of space and cloud. Satellogic is creating a live catalog of Earth and delivering daily updates to create a complete picture of changes to our planet for decision-makers. Satellogic is generating massive volumes of data, with each of its satellites collecting an average of 50GB of data daily. They are using compute, storage, analytics, and ground station infrastructure in support of their growth.

Given that this is the first major update for Chapter 4 Season 4, the downtime should not take that long. Given that not much is being added in, this is a regular maintenance check at most. That said, the servers should be up and running by 6 am Eastern time. Nevertheless, if the developers need a bit more time to get things up and running, it may stretch to 6:30 am Eastern Time at most.

There is a strong chance that players will experience long queue times and server lag. Given the number of concurrent players this season, it's a smart idea to wait a while and let things normalize after the Fortnite update v26.10 goes live.

Aside from potential collaborations, new Snapshot Quests featuring Piper Pace will be added to the game alongside new Weekly Challenges. Super Styles will also be added alongside new Reality Augments. Lastly, there will be a few bug fixes as well that Epic Games will implement in the Fortnite update v26.10.

Last week, EMA and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) issued a joint statement providing updated public health considerations on the use of the newly authorised adapted COVID-19 vaccines to support Member States in their planning for autumn and winter vaccination campaigns. Although adapted vaccines are authorised for use in people aged 12 years and above who have received at least primary vaccination against COVID-19, the ECDC and EMA advised that these boosters be directed as a priority to people who are more at risk of severe disease because of certain risk factors.

At the iPhone event, Apple is also likely to announce the date when it will release the new iOS 17 and watchOS 10 operating systems, most likely a few days after the event. We may also get a download date for iPadOS 17, which is usually released at the same time as iOS, but sometimes the iPadOS launches a little later. Apple is also likely to reveal when the next updates to tvOS and HomePod software will be available.

In addition to the new iPhone 15 hardware, Apple is also planning a new Apple Watch Series 9 update. The new Apple Watch Series 9, however, is expected to be an iterative update without many major changes.

The Apple Watch Ultra is also expected to get an update this year, but details here are just as sparse as details about the Apple Watch Series 9. Presumably, the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 will use the same S9 processor with improved performance and battery life.

Looking beyond new hardware, Apple will also announce more details about iOS 17 and its other new software updates during the September event. This includes iOS 17, watchOS 10, tvOS 17, and iPadOS 17. These updates were first announced at WWDC in June and have been in beta testing since then.

Google Search has started to roll out the second broad core update of the year, the September 2022 broad core update. It started on September 12, 2022 at about 11:25 am ET and can take about two weeks to roll out.

This update followed the completion of the Google helpful content update that finished on Friday, September 9th. I am surprised, I was kind of told that following the helpful content update we would be getting the fifth product reviews update - but all is good, we got a core update instead.

So far we are seeing that this core update is already picking up steam and causing a lot of widespread volatility. Both the early chatter within the SEO community are showing this and also the Google tracking tools. Some are showing 20-60% drops in traffic since this began rolling out. It is too soon to be certain but I wanted to share what we've seen so far.

  • Name: Google September 2022 Broad Core Update
  • Launched: September 12, 2022 at around 11:25 pm ET
  • Rollout: It will take about one to two weeks to roll out
  • Targets: It looks at all types of content
  • Penalty: It is not a penalty, it promotes or rewards great web pages
  • Global: This is a global update impacting all regions, in all languages.
  • Impact: Google would not tell me what percentage of queries or searches were impacted by this update but so far, this seems to be a typical core update that reaches wide and the impact is fast.
  • Discover: Core updates impact Google Discover and other features, also feature snippets and more.
  • Recover: If you were hit by this, then you will need to look at your content and see if you can do better with Google's core update advice.
  • Refreshes: Google will do periodic refreshes to this algorithm but may not communicate those updates in the future. Maybe this is what we saw the past couple of weeks or all those unconfirmed Google updates.

Time will tell but core updates tend to be noticeable and SEOs do generally see widespread changes with these updates. Plus Danny Sullivan kind of hinted that we might see changes with the next core update, as Glenn Gabe reminded us below. But not because the helpful content update and core updates are related, they are not. More because the scores together might tip some scales for some, if they have issues with both separate ranking systems...

Not that directly. Point is our ranking systems use a variety of signals overall, as we said:

Helpful content is weighted, so sites on the edge might not see issues. But if they also have core update issues, the combo might be more significant. pic.twitter.com/tQZcsZQHkp

This will take a couple of weeks to roll out and it has been about four months since the last update, which was last the May 2022 core update on May 25, 2022. Prior to that was the November 2021 core update on November 17th through November 30th. The previous core updates prior to the November update was the July 2021 and then a month prior to that with the June core update. The one before that was 6 months before the June update, on December 3, 2020 named the December 2020 core update. Before that was 7 month gap where on May 4, 2020, the May 2020 core update. The one prior to that was on January 13, 2020, the January 2020 core update and the one before that was on September 24, 2019, the September 2019 core update. Oh, before that was on June 3, 2019, the June 2019 core update and I can go on and on.

I know everyone complains about core updates, and Google tends to ignore them. But, if you don't allow time for people to analyse trends from previous updates then how do you expect them to improve or learn?

September 2022 Core Update impact. Based on data from tracking tools, the September 2022 core update hit fast, but was less impactful than previous updates. While there was some rank volatility, the consensus was that it was weaker than past Google core updates.
