How to Download and Install UPHClean for Windows

UPHClean (User Profile Hive Cleanup) is a service that helps to ensure user sessions are completely terminated when a user logs off from a Windows computer. It can resolve issues with roaming profiles, registry keys, and memory leaks. In this article, we will show you how to download and install UPHClean for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, and Windows NT 4.0.

Step 1: Download UPHClean

You can download UPHClean from one of the following sources:

download uphclean

Download Zip https://t.co/RhEMd6TtgS

    • Microsoft Learn: This is the official source of UPHClean, but it may not be available at all times. Scroll down to the section "Use the Microsoft User Profile Hive Cleanup Service to reconcile user profiles" and click on the link "Download UPHClean".
    • SkyDrive: This is an alternative source of UPHClean, provided by a Microsoft Community user. Look for the file named "UPHClean-Setup.msi" and click on it to download.
    • MajorGeeks: This is another alternative source of UPHClean, provided by a third-party website. Click on the button "Download@MajorGeeks" to start the download.

Note: When you download the file, make sure it has the extension ".msi". If not, you may have to rename the file and add the proper extension before you can install it.

    Step 2: Install UPHClean

Once you have downloaded the UPHClean installer (UPHClean-Setup.msi), follow these steps to install it:

      • Double-click the installer to begin the installation.
      • In the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service installation wizard, click Next.
      • Read the license agreement and click I Agree if you accept it.
      • Select the destination folder for UPHClean and click Next.
      • Click Install to start the installation.
      • Wait for the installation to finish and click Finish.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed UPHClean for Windows. You can now log off and log on again to see if it resolves any issues with your user profile.

      How UPHClean Works

UPHClean is a service that runs in the background and monitors the user profiles on your computer. When a user logs off, UPHClean checks if there are any processes or applications that are still using the registry keys in the user profile. If so, UPHClean tries to close them gracefully or force them to release the registry keys. This way, the user profile can be unloaded from memory and deleted from the disk if it is a roaming profile.

UPHClean can help you avoid problems such as:

        • Slow logoff or logon times.
        • Profile not reconciled with the server.
        • Profile not deleted from the local computer.
        • Profile corruption or loss of data.
        • Memory leaks or high CPU usage.

        How to Configure UPHClean

UPHClean is designed to work with the default settings, but you can also customize it to suit your needs. You can use the Registry Editor to modify the UPHClean settings in the following registry key:

        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UPHClean\Parameters

Some of the settings you can change are:

          • ProcessNameExclusionList: A list of process names that UPHClean will ignore and not try to close or release.
          • WaitTimeBeforeTerminateUserApps: The time in seconds that UPHClean will wait before trying to terminate a process that is using a user profile registry key.
          • WaitTimeBeforeReleasingUserRegistry: The time in seconds that UPHClean will wait before trying to release a user profile registry key that is still in use by a process.
          • LogLevel: The level of detail that UPHClean will log in the event log. The higher the level, the more information will be logged.

For more information about these and other settings, see the UPHClean Parameters article on Microsoft Docs.
