1. nonameconf functioning and objectives.
--------------------------------------------------------------
This discussion is mostly for the not-so-far-away-future to understand
how the folks behind nonameconf forsee taking it into the future?
Their plans on structure, style of functioning -- is it going the
registered IPSS (open, transparent, registered) way or the
bangalore-barcamp (no registered org, per se ; finances handled via
another non-profit, bunch of people get together and organise, etc..)
way or something entirely new and unheard of. I'm curious to hear more
--Probably others are curious too but unless they speak up and ask,
nobody knows.
IMHO, its always easier if the objectives are outlined at the
beginning and I'm aware that public discussions like these have a
tendency to get controversial. The last thread went nowhere and I
dislike having to point it out, given that many of you are peers from
whom I would expect more support and understanding -- please help to
keep the discussion on-topic by reducing sarcasm and
'well-intentioned' humor to a bare minimum. The latter, unfortunately,
has a way of killing discussions and although I'm excited that we are
finally having a conference that will (probably) not discriminate so
much, the (subtle) sarcasm makes me apprehensive to start a discussion
in first place, yet I'll risk trying again.
Your thoughts/comments/suggestions are welcome.

Since the teaser site says 'nonameconf' would be in december 2010 at
bengaluru, I'm curious to know "what" to expect. I'm interested in the
'focus' bits and would love to see talks and tracks devoted to
specific technical topics but I prefer the LCA miniconfs
(http://lca2011.linux.org.au/programme/about). Then there is the
possibility of having tutorials, workshops, unconference style poster
sessions and open spaces (like pycon@usa), hallway talks, maybe even a
barcamp-style unconference within the main conference? The
possibilities are just endless so it would help if we could understand
the scope and focus at the outset.

We've been introduced to a couple of colleges, and are talking to them about
the venue. Hopefully we can take a call on it later this week. Obviously the
date/format of the event depends on the venue we are able to land.
We expected the mailing list discussion to be more proactive and be people
talking about what they would want to see/do at the event. Unfortunately
people seem more interested in discussing other events rather than about
*this* one.
We've had to make some changes in how we hope to engage the
community/increase participation, which will be explained when the website
goes live.

how about doing some grass roots work - you could address a couple of
one day workshops in some colleges in the time you have got - especially
the colleges you are talking to. bts, you could also try Christ
university - they have strong FOSS team and may help host.

I for one consider myself an inside community member doing my bit for
the event - regardless of whether I am in the list or not. I agree we
have been discussing other events, but I do not think that is negative -
partly it is to give suggestions on what should or should not be done,
and partly because the core team had not put much on the table to be
discussed. So far the date is fixed, nature of the conference is fixed -
once we get a venue, the rest will fall in place. And if we have not
venue we can always meet in cubbon park or lal bagh and plan next years
conference better. At this stage all I can say is that I will be there.
That's the initial bunch of people who had the idea and the will to
actually get this into motion. We picked out friends we trusted, folks
we've worked with before and we could count on. This team is *not*
constant. In fact, we don't know who will be there next year. I don't
know if I'll be there next year or not :)
New people coming in to that list isn't A Big Thing ®. We know we're
going to have a lot of fun at the conf, people will volunteer, people
will help us out. And from these people, we'll pick and decide the
next batch. Its a big responsibility and I am fairly certain next
year's work will be twice as much. Nobody would want people who'd only
talk and not actually *do* anything. If you're willing to spend
sleepless nights, sure, hop in!

Totally wrong. Core team means you help in *organizing*. The "engine"
part like the venue, the site, the stats, the infra, the event itself,
registrations, swag, people, this, that. Core team does the dirty work
so that the big show keeps running. In fact, core team might not be
able to really enjoy the event. They make sure everyone *else* enjoys.
The other thousands of people do the real work. Like, what talk they
want to see? What ideas do they have? How about an open hardware
hacking contest? How about a new logo spree? How about a 48 hour
marathon build-what-you-can-with-pylons event?
Hope that makes things clearer :)

hah - now we know one more member's name ;-)
For the record, can you put the names of those people who constitute the
team as of speaking, on the table? It would help us Twitter-challenged
types who prefer names to handles.

In addition we have been getting help on the website help Gaurang, a friend
of Pratul's. (Gurpartap started out the same way, but we've now absorbed him
in.)
(The members above who weren't on the initial list were brought in to
have a better bus factor between now and the event.)
The list isn't complete or final in any way. We will be adding a few more
people (local to BLR) once we have a fix on the date/venue.
