Dear colleagues:

For Chicago May events, our union partner has drafted the 1st press release.  They've asked for our revision for Occupy's participation in Chicago, at least the part that we are coordinating.  Please provide your feed back ASAP, they are looking to blast out Mon or Tue.  Please provide any ideas that you may or may not think should be part of this particular release.  We are likely to issue at least one more press release either independently or with the Nurses and/or CANG8.

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                             May xx

OCCUPY CHICAGO

MAY 18~22

Solidarity of the 99%

Thousands from more than a dozen cities

Join Nurses to Converge for “Robin Hood Tax”

Chicago xxxxx

Just two weeks after thousands joined in May Day marches and rallies throughout the nation and around the globe, over 85 environmental, labor and health groups, and Occupy Wall Street activists of 99Solidarity from more than a dozen cities, will join nurses as they march to Daley Plaza, alongside Robin Hood and the band of merry women and men, in a call for a Just and Fair Society against militarism for better budget priorities.  Robin and friends are echoing what many are saying:  no to fake austerity! Serve human needs not militarism and corporate greed.  Austerity policies have failed and the nurses and supporters are calling for immediate tax revenue to stop economic demise.

The march culminates in a rally where Robin and the nurses will scour the brush and trees for the absent G-8 world leaders – hidden in the woods of Maryland.   What will they do to help average families, not banks and Wall Street, in the midst of continuing economic gloom?  Robin has an answer.

A Robin Hood Tax is a small tax on Wall Street trades on stocks, bonds, derivatives and other financial instruments to raise revenue without delay and address the unwarranted pain of U.S. and global austerity measures while those who caused the 2008 economic collapse continue to profit.

Grammy award winning musician Tom Morello, The Nightwatchman, will join the festivities, at Daley Plaza.

March:   11 a.m., begins at Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, 301 East North Water St.
Rally:      12:15 p.m., Daley Plaza, Randolph at Dearborn

If this is coming from NNU, I think it is ok. If we are going to send this out or post it on our website, then I think it needs to be revised to include may 19 and 20 events, and have a headline that is not primarily focused on may 18, and highlight our participation.

What is the intended use?
