Round 12 of Nomicron ended on 2011-03-17 when Goos won Round 12. The game has been in Convention since then. The last game activity was the motion to make Fox a player, which passed on 2011-04-01 with unanimous consent of the existing players Jef (me) and Goos. Good, Fox, and I remain as players per the rules.

I've been on a claude code bender the past few months and made a couple of apps, including rewriting Nomicron as a python flask app running on GCP Cloud Run with a MongoDB Atlas database.

I wanted to see if there would be interest in a Round 13 of Nomicron? I have created a test environment web site at https://test.nomicron.org. It is fully functional for creating proposals and posting on the RFC for comment. I've posted a draft proposal on the RFC that I intend to submit when the round begins and would be interested in any comments. Please sign up and poke around, create drafts, comment on RFC, etc.--I'll approve any player activation requests as they come in.

Public forum integration works, but goes to a test group so it won't show up here, but when (if) the round starts, it will be fully integrated with this group. You will be able to interact with the forum through the web app, email, google groups page, and it will all end up synchronized.

One of the challenges with the prior rounds of Nomicron was keeping up with website automation changes as rule changes came in. There was always a friction with that or favoring manual bookeeping that quickly becomes tedious but easier to maintain. As a developer, I favor automation, and that has mostly been how Nomicron worked.

My intent with this new app is that there could be multiple ways that rule changes get implemented

  • players can provide their own implementation or manual tracking for rules they propose which require it (this was always an option)
  • players can submit pull requests to the github repo if they want to build the implementation
  • I could assign implementation to claude for changes and additions--core rule changes that affect tallying votes, etc. would need to be handled this way, and I would be open to implementing other rule changes like this provided my Anthropic quota isn't tapped (never is for my on Max 5x so far). We could even automate the implementation and have it deploy to the test environment for validation.

The ruleset on the test site is a slightly-modified initial ruleset of the last static version of the old website I've found so far (Round 9). I intend to submit a motion to make that ruleset the initial ruleset for Round 13, but any suggestions on modifications would be welcome.

I see that some people are still subscribed to get emails from this group, but I'm not sure if anyone is really getting them. If any of you are interested, please speak up! It would be great to get this going again after the 15 year hiatus.

It was a fun surprise to see this email in my inbox after such a long time :-) I'm somewhat interested! Realistically how much time I have is limited, but I'd be interested to see how it goes and participate as time allows.

Great to hear from you Goos! I have some IRL friends who will likely join as well, both signed up on the test site (gumptionthomas was a former player from early rounds).

Anyone else still around?

Hi all,

I am very excited by this. What a blast from the past. I had some very similar ideas and got as far as registering a (different) domain and building a rudimentary framework myself a year ago, but would much rather rejoin this. I have a lot on my plate generally so can’t promise to be brilliantly active, but would like to be reinstated as a full player with name Truthflux.

I'd have to look over the rules to check, but I don't think I ever officially ceased to be an active player. I was active at the end of Round 12, and there haven't been any events since then to change that. Anyway, I'm now formally declaring that I'm still a player.

Nice to see everyone back!

Looney

Truthflux and Looney!

Nice to have you back! Regarding your status Looney, looking back at the google group history, you became inactive (an observer per the rules) a couple of months before the end of Round 12 on 2011-03-17. I will submit a motion for both of you to become active players in a moment. I will post it here, but I am setting up a Discord server tonight to serve as the Public Forum--the other recently joined players are waiting to join there instead of this group. I'll post it there too when it's ready.

I mentioned in another thread about moving the Public Forum to Discord. I hope that won't put anyone off, but I think it will be more interactive. I'm planning to tie the RFC in with it to make Discord the interaction hub instead of the website and emails. I'll post more info and send out server invitations when I have it ready.

I stand corrected... I re-read Rule 3, and since both Truthflux and Looney were players during Round 12, they only became inactive, not non-players. Therefore, their stating that they are active was enough to make it so... and so no motion is currently needed.

Truthflux and Looney are active players.

Welcome back!

Hello. Back in 2011, I was not a player and was waiting for the previous session to end and a new session to ask to join. The wait was a little longer than anticipated, but:

Hey, this seems fun. Can I join?

Absolutely! The public forum is moved to Discord, I'll send you an invitation. Feel free to sign up for the test site https://test.nomicron.org as well.
