Reasoning of the conference
We live in volatile times. In the wake of the economic crisis, Cyprus experiencing, as is the EU itself, multiple crises: a crisis of the economy, politics, identity and society. The wars in the Middle East have led millions of people to flee; also fundamentalists hit targets within Europe, whilst we are experiencing a dangerous rise of far right groups and ideologies in the entire spectrum of politics, identity and society. Turkey is undergoing a dangerous restructuring with Erdogan’s autocratic rule.
This is the unstable context within which the resumed talks to resolve the Cyprus problem is taking place. We are at a crossroads: either we will move decisively to a solution, or we move into the consolidation of partition.
Is there is hope? What are the prospects of reconciliation in Cyprus, the region, Europe and the world?
Simultaneous translations in English, Greek and Turkish.
