One day, Lai runs into Ho again, who is injured and penniless. Lai reluctantly takes him in and nurses him back to health. The two resume their relationship, but it is still fraught with tension and violence. Ho is manipulative and abusive, while Lai is passive and dependent. They constantly argue and break up, only to reconcile again. Lai realizes that he is trapped in a vicious cycle and that he has to let go of Ho.
Lai finally decides to leave Ho and move out of their apartment. He also quits his job at the bar and accepts Chang's offer to visit the Iguazu Falls. There, he experiences a sense of freedom and peace. He also receives a postcard from Ho, who has returned to Hong Kong and wishes him well. Lai tears up the postcard and throws it into the waterfall, symbolizing his closure and acceptance.
